Varanasi, also known as Banaras, is the holiest city in India. It is the oldest city that is still functional, i.e. people still live in this ancient city. Every year Varanasi attracts lakhs of tourists and pilgrims not only from all parts of India but also from many countries in the world. Quite naturally, there are accommodation options available to suit the needs of rich, middle-class, and economically poorer sections of people/tourists. Here are some suggestions for the aforestated three categories:

Luxury Hotels and Resorts

1. Taj Nadesar Palace: It is a luxurious heritage hotel located at Nadesar Palace Ground offering a royal experience. owned by the Taj Group.
2. Brij Rama Palace: It is a luxury hotel located on the banks of the Ganga River at Darbhanga Ghat, providing top-level amenities and services.
3. Radisson Hotel Varanasi: It is a five-star hotel with modern facilities and a convenient location owned by the famous Radisson group of hotels. It is located near Varanasi Cantonment.

Mid-Range Hotels and Guesthouses for middle-class people

1. Hotel Surya: It is a comfortable and affordable hotel situated near the very famous Dashashwamedh Ghat.
2. Hotel Ganges View: This hotel offers clean and budget-friendly rooms with a view of the Ganges River. This hotel is at Assi Ghat.
3. Ganpati Guest House: Ganpati Guest House is a very popular guesthouse with reasonable rates and a rooftop restaurant. It is located at Meer Ghat.

Budget Accommodation and Dharamshalas

1. Kashi Yatra Guest House: A budget-friendly guest house located close to the main ghats.
2. Shree Sai Kripa Guest House: Provides basic amenities at affordable prices. It is near Shivala.
3. Sri Ram Kuti: A Dharamshala offering low-cost accommodation for pilgrims and economically disadvantaged travellers. This is located at Shivala.
4. Bharat Sevashram Sangha Guest House: It is a very popular guest house for people from relatively financially weaker sections located at Sigra. It maintains maximum cleanliness and the food available is hygienic. In this group, this is my favourite.

There are many more hotels/guest houses/Dharamshala for all these three categories of tourists in Varanasi.

Final Few Words

Concluding my response, I would like to state that it would be prudent for tourists to book these hotels/Dharamshala in advance before commencing the journey.

Varanasi is a very popular place in North India and a large number of people visit it. Many visit due to religious reasons but equally go there as common tourists. After the renovation and beautification of Kashi Vishwanath temple the crowd to Varanasi has increased significantly.

There are a large number of hotels, guest houses, and Dharamshala available in Varanasi for visitors. On one side, star hotels like Radisson, Ramada, Madin, etc are charging about Rs 6000 per day; on the other side, plenty of budget hotels charge Rs 1000 to 2500. They form the best hotels in Varanasi for tourists. I have shortlisted some of the budget hotels in Varanasi which are popular and provide good service. These are as follows -

  • Dwivedi Hotels Palace on Steps, D 21/11, Ranamahal Ghat, Near Dasawamedh, Varanasi - It is very near to the Ghats and rent is Rs 2000 per day.
  • Banarasi Homestay, Mahmoorganj Road, Varanasi - It charges about Rs 1600 per day.
  • FabHotel Premium Kashi, Plot No 157, Krishna Nagar Colony, Paharia, Varanasi - Located 3 km from the centre. Charges Rs 1600 per day.
  • Golden Lotus Suites & Dorm, Khajuri Gola, After Pani Tanki S.8/375, Besides Mayur Mart, Varanasi - Rent is about Rs 2600 per day.
  • Foreigners' Inn, D 47/4A-1 Ramapura Luxa Near PDR Mall, Varanasi - Charges Rs 2300 per day.
  • Banaras Rest House, Hathi Phatak Pandey Ghat,  D 23/2, Varanasi - A good place but charges only Rs 1000 per day

Depending on the rush of the tourist to Varanasi, the above rates can change to some extent. One should check these Varanasi hotels near Kashi Vishwanath Temple on travel and hotel booking sites before the visit.
