WPL is starting today (04.03.2023) in Mumbai

WPL cricket league is all set to start today (4 to 26 March) and matches will be played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Entry for women to watch the games in respective stadiums is free.
There are 57 players from India and 30 from overseas making a total of 87. Five teams are there in the fray - Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz.
Opening ceremony is today (04.03.2023) at 6:25 PM and match at 8 PM. One can watch the fun in Jio Cinema and Sports 18.
The good thing is that like IPL this one is also getting attention of business houses and public. I wish WPL a grand sporting event.

Yes, I quite enjoyed yesterday's match and happy that it is free for viewers on the Jio Cinema website. I did not watch the entire match as it goes into very late hours. The captain of MI and Mathews played really well. There was a good crowd, too, though the entire stadium was not full.

I think, as one report said, if there is a great display of batting and bowling, not only will a fan-base get well-established, the spectators will flock to the stadiums and more teams and more venues can be added. Wishing the WPL a grand success!

Yesterday's opening ceremony was very well conducted. Bollywood actors Kiara Advani, and Kriti Sanon and Punjabi singer and rapper AP Dhillon made the people happy with their performances on the stage. The trophy was unveiled with all five team captains. BCCI president Roger Binny and other officials accompanied them on the stage.
Yesterday MI won over Gujarat Giants in the first match. MI scored 207 for 5 and MI bowlers bundled out for 64 runs and MI won the match with a very good margin. It is a one-sided match. Such matches may not create much interest for the viewers. The matches should be very tight and nobody should be able to predict the result, till the last ball. Such matches are required. Hope we will see good matches in the coming days.

Today one match between Capitals and Royal Challengers is already over and Capitals won by 60 runs. Capitals scored 223 runs while Challengers could make only 163 runs. Match was not one sided and was interesting.
Another match is in progress between Giants and Warriors and Giants made 169 runs in 20 overs and now Warriorz are playing and have scored 44 for 7 overs (at 21:49 hrs).

    Giants - 169/6 (20)

I did not watch the game between the Giants and the Warriorz, and plan to watch the highlights when I have free time. Imagine winning with just a ball to spare! Today the Giants will meet Bangalore Challengers. Perhaps they will finally open their account on the points table with a win.

Yesterday (08.03.23) Giants won by 11 runs. Royal Challengers played well and tried their best but could score only 190 against 201 of Giants. WPL is becoming popular and audience interest in it is increasing day by day.
Today's (09.03.23) match will be held between Capitals and Indians.

MI won very convincingly against DC with a scintillating performance by the team's bowlers and the opening partnership, like earlier, sealed the win very nicely with nary a hiccup. Well done Mumbai Indians!

Now let's see if the Bangalore team gets back on its feet in their next match today against UP Warriorz.

  • #25754
Yes, MI did a good job in the match against DC played on 09.03.23. They won by 8 wickets (30 balls left). Very impressive.
Today (10.03 23) the match between Royal Challengers and Warriorz is going on. Royal Challengers made 138 (19.3) and now Warriorz playing at 103/0 (10 overs). They require 36 runs in 60 balls to win. Does not look difficult but in cricket we cannot predict anything.

On 10.03.23 Warriorz easily won the match by making 139/0 only in 13 overs.
Yesterday (11.03.23), match was played between Giants and Capitals. Giant made 105/9 in 20 overs and Capitals followed them and played well and made 107/0 in 7.1 overs and won the match easily.

Mumbai Indians won a second time against Gujarat Giants, and this is their fifth consecutive win. Wow! They did lose a wicket off the very first ball, but the unflappable captain Harmanpreet Kaur calmly took the team to victory after yet another superb batting display. Now the team is a clear two points ahead of Delhi Capitals, with 10 points.

Today Warriorz meets the Royal Challengers. The latter is languishing at the bottom of the table, without a single victory. There were huge expectations from the captaincy of Smriti Mandhana but so far even on the batting front she has failed. Will they open their account today is a moot point. Warriorz, of course, will be determined to get two more valuable points with a victory.

Yes, on 14.03.23 Giants were far behind Indians and lost the match. But yesterday's match was interesting as Challengers defeated Warriorz and gained their first score in the points table. Right now they are at number 4 in the points table.
Let us now watch the fight between Capitals and Giants today.

  • #25788
The Gujarat Giants team won, surprisingly, despite an achievable score for Delhi Capitals who lost their way with a continuous fall of wickets. It seems the Gujarat and Bangalore teams may still be in the fray if they win every single game from now on. It is getting a little bit exciting!

I think today there are no matches, with two scheduled for tomorrow. The first is between MI and UP Warriorz at 3.30 p.m., and the second between Royal Challengers and Gujarat Giants at 7.30 p.m.

  • #26792
Yesterday (18.03.23) the first match between Indians and Warriorz was very interesting and Warriorz had a narrow win (3 balls left).
In the second match Challengers won over Giants comfortably by 8 wickets (27 balls left).

  • #26799
Yesterday (20.03.23), Warriorz won the match by 3 wickets against Giants very narrowly (1 ball left).
In another match, Capitals won comfortably by 9 wickets against Indians (66 balls left).
Right now Challengers and Indians are topping the score table.

Today (21.03.23) match will be played between Challengers and Indians.

    Update (as on 22.03.23):
On 21.03.23 in the match between Challengers and Indians, the latter won by 4 wickets (21 balls left).
In another match between Capitals and Warriorz, Capitals won by 5 wickets ( 13 balls left).
Next match would be between Indians and Warriorz on 24.03.23
Right now Capitals and Indians are topping the score table at 12 points each.

So the eliminator match will be between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz, with Delhi Capitals making it to the finals. Looking forward to an exciting game tomorrow at 7.30p.m.!

  • #26808
Yesterday (24.03.23) Indians won over Warriorz by a whopping 72 runs. So they will now be playing finals tomorrow (26.03.23) against Capitals. I feel that would be an interesting match.

  • #26810
The eliminator match was a great win for Mumbai Indians. They put up a good total when batting first, and then the bowlers restricted the Warriorz with superb bowling spells, and that hat-trick from Issy Wong sealed the obvious victory.

I am looking forward to an exciting final to this first edition of WPL!

Mumbai Indians won the trophy! It was quite exciting, I must say. When Harmanpreet Kaur was run out, and the boundaries were not coming in, with the required run rate zooming up, it did look like Delhi Capitals was having things under control. Then Scriver-Brunt along with Kerr started getting the boundaries, and it came down to a nail-biting finish with three balls left to spare. A superb finale worthy of the first edition of the WPL. Kudos, ladies of all teams!

Scriver-Brunt won the Player of the Match award, while Hayley Mathews was declared the Player of the Tournament.

It was a very interesting match. Mumbai Indians have won this inaugural WPL and etched their name as the first winner in the sports history of WPL.
As per the information in the media WPL got good attention of the viewers and respective stadiums also had good attendance.
We hope that future WPL tournaments would attract more people to view it.
Congratulations to team Mumbai Indians for this achievement.
