A tranquil fine-looking artifact-filled church constructed during 1523 by Portuguese which positioned on the top of 300 feet height at St. Thomas Mount. This is the origin of St. Thomas Mount.

St. Thomas Mount has its own evergreen and everlasting specialty. Pope john Paul II has visited St. Thomas Mount Church in the year 1986 (in the month of February). Pope john Paul is one of the greatest follower of Christ and a great leader in spreading Christianity throughout the world. He has given a good speech to the people who are in Chennai about the Christianity and Jesus Christ. At present the Government of India functions Officer training academy (OTA) on the underneath of St. Thomas Mount. The Southern Railway has a Chennai suburban railway station functions at St. Thomas mount.
