Earthquake in Chennai People given a Tsunami alert


Today in Chennai there was a mild earth quake in Chennai at 2:00 PM. People feeling earthquake in Chennai for the first time felt it as a thrilling experience. People in Chennai is also given a Tsunami alert and asked to evacuate the coastal regions of Chennai.

Most of the areas in Chennai today felt a mild shake. People in Chennai walked out of their office and houses. Today Indonesia felt a earthquake with magnitude of 8.7 which hit the waters off westernmost Aceh province. It is supposed to be the 8th strongest earthquake for the past 100 years. The impact of this has also been observed in various parts of the world. In addition to this there is also a Tsunami alert issued world wide in almost 28 countries. Indian government has also issued a Tsunami alert in coastal regions of Chennai. Most of the cities in India such as Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Banglore, Hydrabad, Thiruvanandhapuram have reported this earthquake tremors.

Most of the offices in Chennai has also issued a security warning to their employees. The companies have asked the employees to leave home if they wish to in addition to this earthquake which hit Chennai Today. As we all know the giant earthquake of magnitude 9.1 that hit Chennai on 26 December, 2004. In addition to this people are already afraid and standing out of their house. Also people are providing the updates on what they are feeling in Facebook, Twitter etc. It is safe to move from the coastal regions of Chennai as there is already a warning issued for the people of Chennai. Policemen in Chennai coastal areas are already alert in asking people to leave. People in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi also experienced the same and they have also been given a Tsunami alert in the coastal regions. Police has reported that people are not allowed to get near the coastal regions. Even in Chennai Marina Beach, police has restricted people to go near the beach. It is also expected that there will be a Tsunami to hit Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Though this is not reported to be a very big earthquake in Chennai, it is said that people in coastal areas asked to be safe taking all precautions that is necessary.
