James Vasanthan is an Indian music composer for films and also he is very poplar by appearing in various Stage shows and TV shows as well. James has been popular in hosting different kinds of shows on various television channels. Even before entering into the film industry as a successful musician, James Vasanthan has hosted various shows or more than a decade in very famous Tamil satellite TV channels like Sun TV, Vijay TV and Makkal TV. Presently, James hosts for a game show in Vaijay TV called “Oru Vaarthai Oru Latcham" which highly concerns about the words in the Tamil language.
James Vasanthan became highly recognized in the Tamil film industry with the release of the movie Tamil movie Subramaniyapuram starring Jai, Swathi and Sasi Kumar in the lead characters in which he gave a wonderful composition to the Tamil film industry. “Kangal Irundal" from the same film encroached tremendous success and made heads turn back for James could prove in the music field as well apart from being a part of the Television and Media. James Vasanthan entered in this earth on the 1st day of October in the year 1962. He was born in the town of Trichy (alias Tiruchirapalli ) and completed his schooling in the same town. James made his schooling initially at YWCA Matric Higher Secondary School which is presently named as BHEL Matric School and the latter part of his schooling at Bishop Heber School. After cessation of his school education; James Vasanthan got him graduated from the Bishop Heber College in English Literature at Trichy. James always held music as his first love, and nevertheless tried to be apart from it and hence took part in many competitions in his schooling and during his collegiate life.

Apart from holding a degree in the Literature, James even tried out his hand in Music for he was damn so passionate about music and this led him to be a student of the Trinity College of Music at the United Kingdom. This passion also made him hold a degree in the theory of music. Though music was his first love, he made a sortie into TV Channel business by working as an anchor for major of the TV Channels that were being telecasted in Tamil. James was also popular in his Tamil diction that made a step ahead from the other hosts working for the same field. He was very clear in all the Tamil words he pronounced and the way he keeps the show high made him popular and successful in the initial stages of his career. This initial success proved to be with him all through his life even when it is concerned about the musical era he led into the film industry.

It was in the year 2003, when James Vasanthan has started off his career as a musician in the Tamil music industry. James's first debut as a musician was for Vaasanai. Vaasanai though not very famous but was still known to many people as it was a Pop album in Tamil that countenances some of the most popular Television personalities, rather the colleagues of James in is TV industry like Swarnamalya, Uma Padmanabhan and Vijay Adiraj. Apart from being acclaimed as a music composer officially, James had composed musc for many Christian cassettes which did well in the market. The number of cassettes James has worked over rounds to around 300. Some of his noteworthy Christian albums are “Amarntha Melliya Satham" with lyrics being taken over by Suresh Fredrick, “Sinthanai Sei", “Friends", “Iravin Amaithiyil Yesuvodu" and many other virtous albums of this sort.

In the year 2008, James Vasanthan eventually entered the Chennai film industry as a music composer for his first debut with film songs was for the film Subramaniyapuram. This film was taken over in the direction side by M Sasi Kumar who was a childhood friend of James in the schooling days which brought him into prominence with the film's sound track gaining fame and being praised. The one song of the movie brought James into absolute fame and offers for many other movies and that song was “Kangal Irundal". This film starred Jai, Sasi Kumar, Swathi and Kanja Karuppu in the lead characters. The song has been topping the charts and was cited as the “anthem of the year among the youth of Tamil Nadu" and the most familiar and heard song in all the TV channels and in Radio stations.

After Subramaniyapuram, many other movie offers made James to be intact and busy all blended up in and with music for the films he had signed. Other films were Yathumaagi and Naanayam starring Prasanna for the lead role. Naanayam also made a hit melody number – “Naan Pogiren Mele Mele" which also rocked the music world. In the same year of releasing Subtamaniyapuram James set tunes for a film called Pasanga which received the National award for the best film category. James as usual gave out a sweet and a ear soothing melody number – “Oru Vetkam Varude Varude" which also received a great welcome amongst Tamil audiences.

With the first 4 films working in Tamil, James moved onto Kannada language for the film Bilingual. Other movies that James is working with and those are yet to be released are Police Quarters – Kavalar Kudiyiruoou, Eesan in the year 2010 which again was a musical hit for the peppy dance number – “Enda Iruvu than Poguther Poguthe" again in the direction of the film director M Sasi Kumar. Next move for James turned out to be in Malayalam for the movie called Doubles. The musical venture for James in the year 2011 has Naanum Subramaniyum and Maruthavelu in the same year.

Awards, Accolades and Recognition of James Vasanthan


James Vasanthan was awarded the Best find of t year – Tamil music award for song of the year in 2009 for the song “Kangal Irundal" from the film Subamaniyapuram. James was again nominated for the film fare awards under the category of the Best music director award in Tamil. Along with the music direction he has also participated in various stage shows. In many TV shows he is one of the judges who give judgment to the people who sing songs. Also he has participated in various TV shows and conducted TV shows. In Vijay TV there is a show named Oru Varthai Oru Laksham. This show is conducted by James Vasanthan.
