S.Mahathi is an Indian; more briefly a south Indian play back singer who has her interest towards singing equally in Carnatic music and also play back singing in the cine industry. She has sung many songs in for various films setting ahead with many of the leading music directors in the industry. Mahathi had her first debut in the cine industy with the legendary music director at all times – Illaiyaraaja for the film called Kadhal Jhadi and she was selected to sing the song “Enna Maranthalum". So it was a wonderful start for Mahathi in her career to making it with a powerful musician.

Childhood and Back ground of Mahathi Playback singer


S.Mahathi hailing from a family of musicians, Mahathi was no a wonder that she proved to be a child prodigy. Her parents were Sri Thiruvaiyar P Sekar and Smt. Vasanthi Sekar. Both her parents were on a par when it comes to the field of music. Mahathi's father was a vocalist and a disciple of Padmavibushan Dr M Balamurali Krishna. Her mother is a flautist and is the grand disciple of Sri T R Mahalingam, Sri N Ramani and Smt Kesi. Smt Vasanthi Shekar is also the granddaughter of the famous violinist “Sangeetha Kalanidhi" Pazhamaneri Swaminatha Iyer. It was just music and only music in and around the family rather than anything else that a family could concentrate upon.

Mahathi seemed no way apart from the family which obviously made her to identify ragas at the bruised age of 1.5 years. This infantile flair was distinguished by her parents during her father's concert at a temple in Palakad. Her parents nurtured her talent by teaching her more supplementary ragas. When she was 2 ½ years old, Mahathi had the knack to pigeonhole more than 75 ragas. In those days, in order to test her talent, her father used to muddle up carnatic swaras but Mahathi indeed did not be indecisive to categorize the extort swaras of the ragas. At the age of 3; Mahathi and her family redeployed over to Chennai for the December music season in the year 1988. At the concert of Mandolin U Srinivas at the Mylapore Fine arts, on December 25th Mahathi was sitting on her mother's lap and kept spotting out the ragas as the Kutcheri was in the air. The secretary of the Sabha who was sitting next to her mother was quite amazed on her overwhelming talent and hence orchestrated for a live demonstration of the child's talents, soon after the main item of the concert got over. Mahathi without any dilly-dallying identified all ragas and riveted the audience. This confrontation appeared in all leading newspapers at that time.

Mahathi underwent her ground work musical training from her parents and from Deepa, Gayatri of Trivandrum. When Mahathi's family shoved over to Trichur, she was put under guidance of Sri Mangad K Natesan. She has been conferred a scholarship for classical music from the central government of India in the year 1994.

Career and Livelihood of Playback singer Mahathi


Mahathi started her career as a play back singer even when she was in her schooling. When her family moved over to Trichur she started singing for devotional songs for various cassettes. In the mean time she sang for some Malayalam movies too. This was the time when she was in her 10th standard. She moved over to her 11th class in Sacred Heart Convent.

At this juncture, once during her visit to Chennai, she had the greatest opportunity of meeting Isai Gnani Illaiyaraaja. The music legend recognized her talent and made her sing a solo under his composition for a song called “Enna Marandhalum" in the movie called Khadal Jathi. In the interim by the year 2001, Mahathi snared the prestigious verdict from the Kerala state government award for classical music in Youth Festivals. She was also entitled with the title of “Bala Bhaskara" from the VDS Arts Academy located at Chennai in the Tamil Nadu. This was when Mahathi compeleted her 11th standard and the family moved over to Chennai foreseeing her career in the play back singing field in the cine industry.

The year 2003 was a turning point for Mahathi in her life. On the 1st of May, came her smash hit “Aiyyaiyyo Pudichirukku" a duet song with Hari Haran in the film Saami starring Vikram and Trisha in the lead roles of the film directed by Hari. This song of her was set to the tunes under the direction of Harris Jeyaraj. Again it was Harris that made Mahathi for another duet for the song “Puyaley Puyale" from the film Kovil starring Simbu and Sonia Agarwal in the lead roles.

Some of her notable hits for various directors are “Nee Vendum" for Varnajaalam for the musician Vidya Sagar. “Khadalikkum aasaiyilai", Vellaikara Muttham" for Chellamay, “Appa Amma" for the film Dreams, “Ennil Ennil" for Parijatham, “Kan Simittum" for Uyir for the music director Joshua Sridhar, “Yengo Yengo" for the film ABCD, “Kannai Thirandu" for the film Ullam by Yuvan Shnakar Raja, “Innisai Alabedayey" for the film God Father, “Yammadi Athadi" for the film Vallavan starring Simbu and Nayathara for the lead roles and a couple of songs for the music director Sabesh Murali.

In the carnatic music field, she has been performing in various sabhas during the December music festival. She undergoes musical training from Padmabhushan Sri T N Seshagopalan. Mahathi has been awarded the direct B High grade in the All India Radio. Her parents have been running a Music School by her daughter's name Mahathi Academy of Music and Dance at a place in Chennai called Virugambakkam wherein Vocal, veena, Violin, Mridangam, Key Board and Bharatanatyam to uphold and promote young talents who are ought to excel in the field of music and arts.

Mahathi has sung for a lot of commercial Ads like Pothys, Chennai Silks, RMKV and Tele serials like Sahana, Priyamudan KB, Rekkai Kattiya Manasu, etc. She has also been an anchor of a musical show called “Aha Paadalam" in Doordharshan Pothigai. Recently she had a prospect to perform with the singer S P B and S Janaki along with other play back singers for the Kavi Perarasu Sri Vairamuthu's function “Kavithayey Paadalaga" in the charisma of our honorable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Mahathi had the occasion of performing for Dr Bala Murali Krishna's 75th birthday celebrations at the music academy in the presence of the former chief minister Selvi J Jayalalitha. She was summons by the maestro Illaiyaraaja to anchor the show “Andrum Indrum Endrum Maestro; a live program at the indoor stadium Chennai and her accomplishment were well appreciated by the crowd.

Mahathi has an expedition all over Malaysia and Singapore for various classical concerts in the year 2002. Many other concerts included Mahathi in various countries like Myanmar, Colombo, London, Norway, Germany, Sweden and Denmark.
