Kattasary Joseph Yesudas, an Indian classical singer and a popular playback singer who has confined hearts of many people throughout the world with his supernatural voice. He has swayed his voice all through the country in various languages like Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Arabic, Latin, Malay, Russian and English. Early Life of Playback singer Yesudas


K.J.Yesudas born in Fort Kochi into a Latin Rite Catholic family to the couple – Augustine Joseph and Alice kutty had been born with a classical music background; for his father was a well – known Malayalam classical musician and stage actor – yesudas's guru. This initial interest made him join the R.L.V Music Academy in Thrippunithura and underwent training. He made himself a “jack of all trades" by mastering Hindustani music too. Yesudas showed a great interest towards the Hindu religion and began to sing various songs for the Hindu religion also. His interest towards the Hindu religion made him sing various devotional songs in the Hindu Religion also. Not only the Film songs but Yesudas is also well versed in singing various carnatic songs and also the Hindustani songs. As he leaned the Hindustani music based on his self interest he found it very comfortable to sing the Hindustani music.

Yesudas wife name is Prabha and they have led a beautiful life together for more than 30 wonderful years and they are blessed with three kids namely – Vinod, Vijay and Vishal. His sons are also good in music and also have wonderful dedication towards the music. Vijay Yesudas is popular in the Film industry for singing many popular songs in the Tamil and Malayalam movies. He has also released various cassettes in various languages based on some theme and the contributions. In the long run of his life he also composed music on his own and released various cassettes in various themes.

Career Instinct of Playback singer Yesudas


Yesudas began his career in the field of play back singing in the Malayalam industry for a movie called “Kaalpaduka" and later into the Tamil industry for various songs that earned him state and national awards. His fame also entered the bollywood for he sang the first movie “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan", but the first released movie being “Chotti si Bhaat". His voice was made for songs enacted by famous bollywood acors like Amitabh Bhachan, Amol Palekar and Jeetendra. Making achievement is not a very big task for him as he once sang for nearly 4 south Indian Languages in AVM studio and that too about 16 film songs on the same day. Most of the famous songs of KJ Yesudas are in the Malayalam film industry as he started his career in the Malayalam film industry.

Yesudas's concerts have always been the most welcomed among the crowd and he made himself sing for many concerts in the cities around the world. In 1971, during the Indo – Pakistan War, Yesudas travelled all around Kerala with his musical troupe to raise funds for the Indian Prime Minister's National Defense Fund. For Safety and Peace he became one of the senate members in the International Parliment. Yesudas is not only famous in India but also all over the world as he was presented with great awards by various people all over the world including UNESCO. Because of his immense talent and popularity he is often preferred by music directors to render songs that require the power factor and extreme variations in ragas, mainly in the big – budget movies.

Awards and Honors of Yesudas Playback singer


Yesudas has sung over 40,000 songs and has won various extrodinary awards from various persons which include the coveted Padma shri, Padma Bhushan and also received nearly 7 national awards for the best playback singing. One main honor that he holds is that; he is the only singer who has been accorded the title Asthana Gayakan (official singer) of Kerala state.

Harivarasanam, a devotional song composed by Sri Kambakkudi Kulathur Srinivasa Iyer, is a powerful recitation that is done before closing of Sabari mala temple everyday was sung by Yesudas. Though there are many recitations and compositions, Sabari mala uses Yesudas's version of Harivarasanam as the official one.

National film award was received as best male playback singer for over 7 times by the Government of India.
• Kerala state film awards were given for the best playback singer for nearly 24 times by the Government of Kerala.
Tamil Nadu state film awards for the best Playback singing nearly 8 times by the Tamilnadu Government.
• UNESCO gave him “Outstanding Achievements in Music and Peace" award as a part of appreciation and the token of love.

His award queue has no end for we shorten them according to the eminent ones. An award by his name – Swaralaya Yesudas Award, a prestigious award for music artists is given in recognition for their outstanding performance. Yesudas also owns Music Company – Tharangani studio at Trivandrum which was later moved to Chennai, Tami Nadu and the company was incorporated in the US in 1998. His fame is popularized by the studio by releasing various music stuffs that are sung by him.
