Sadhana Sargam is a Marathi, i.e. was born in Maharashtra. She was initially trained by her mother, Neelatai Ghanekar for Indian Classical music. After gaining initial training from her mother, she started her training under a musical pandit – Pandit Jasraj. At her keen interest over music, her mother decided her to introduce her into stage and gave a brief intro on her and her music to Anil Mohile, which later developed to be the chance for being a part of children's choir. In the later years of her career in singing, in the year 1982, she released her first single song for the film “Vidhaata".

Sadhana's career shone well equally well in hindi and tamil. Her most critically acclaimed songs started from her first recording for A.R.Rahman in the movie – water. Her first debut for Rahman made her sing for 3 songs at a stretch in the same movie; “Aayo Re Sakhi", “Piya Ho" and “Naina Neer". Sadhana was awarded with national award for the song “Pattu soli" for the movie Azhagi starring Parthiban, Devayani and Nanditha das as the lead roles. She was introduced into the Tamil industry by the most acclaimed melody music director – Vidyasagar for the movie Coimbatore Mappillai. Her worth mentioning songs in tamil are “En nenjil" from Baana Kaathadi, “Man Mohana" from Jodha Akbar, “Amma un Pillai" for Illayaraja for the movie Naan Mahaan. She has sung most of the songs in Tamil; the numbe being 132 in the year 2008 alone.

In the film industry of Kannada she was awarded the best female play back singer for “Marali Mareyaagi" for the movie Savari. The Marathi film industry too gained her voice.
