About Vadodara



Vadodara the name of this city has been changed several times. First it was called Chandravati and then Viravati, later known as Vadpatra. Now it is called Vadodara from Baroda. It is situated in the bank of river Vishamitri in Gujarat. The late Sayajirao Gaekwad III ruled this city from 1875-1939, had strong vision to make this city the centre for Education, Industries and Commerce. To-day's Vadodara stands as a monument to Late Sayajirao Gaekwad's farsighted vision. The city is sourrounded with industrial giants like Reliance Industries(IPCL), Gujarat Refinery, ONGC, GAIL, GSFC, Heavy Water Project and there are so many Big, Midium and Small scale industries supported by GIDC within Vadodara Districts. You can say the efforts of Shri.Narendra Modi's Vibrant Gujarat Submission benefitted by Vdodara too. This city became cosmopolitan with people from different states and culture made this city the Cultural Capital of Gujarat. Aurbindo Society-DandiyaBazar: Sri Aurbindo Ghosh is a well known Philosopher and Freedom Fighter. Aurbindo resided in Vadodara from 1894-1906, during this period he has served as private secretary to Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad and also worked as Vice Principal and Professor of English in Baroda college. His residnece became Aurbindo Society, Dandiya Bazar which displays small measum on the life of Aurbindo. Yoga and Meditation are taught here regularly.

Baroda Museum & Gallery: This museum is the one of the most famous museum in India. It was built in 1894 and have the picture gallery which shows the excellent original collection of famous British painters Turner and Constable. The major attraction of the museum is the Egyptian mummy and the skeleton of a Blue whale. Other attraction in this museum are Famous Akota bronzes of 5th Century, collection of Mughal miniatures, a full fledged gallory of Tibetan Art and oils by several european masters.

Sayajibaugh Garden: Sayajibaugh is known as Kamati Baugh, it was built by Sayajirao-III and the area is 113 acres on the river vishwamitri. The Kamati Baugh has big and beautiful garden to lisure and enjoy the week end with family. It has zoo, Museam,Toy Train & Floral Clock to spend the time in the Sayajibaugh garden.

Laxmi Vilas Palace: This is was built by Sayaji Rao Gaekwad-III and built in the style of Indo-Sarcenic architeture. This palace was constructed from 1878 to 1890 AD with the cost of Rs.60Lakhs. The Laxmi Vilas place complex surrounded with unique collection of museums, beautiful paintings of Raja Ravi Varma.

EME Temple: This Dakshinamurthy temple is situated in the cantonment area near Fatehgunj. This was built in 1966. This temple is made of alluminium and alloys. A cultural centre has also been developed by the EME around the temple here good sculptures of Gujarat, pavilions etc. are nicely preserved. This temple is maintained very nicely by EME.

Gujarat Fun World: The Gujarat Fun world is situated opposite to famous Vrindavan Garden,Ajaw Road and it is 23KM from Vaodara.It is spreaded in 10 acre land and provides entertainment to family with its 3D/4D shows & wonder Tunnel which are introduced first time in India at Gujarat Fund world.

Ajwa Garden: This garden situated 23KM from Vadodara, Ajwa is an ideal place for weekend picnic. Sayaji sarovar lake a major source of water supply for Vadoara, is situated here. The Municipal Corpoation has prepared a beautiful garden, which resembles with the famous Vrundavan Garden of Mysore, illuminated with musical fountains are opearted on every Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Nature Park at Sindhroot:Gujarat Nature conservation society has developed a nature park amidst the ravines of the river Mahi near Sindhroot about 13KM away from Vadodara. It provides an opportunity for the visitors to understand the nature.
