The Hazaribagh National Park lies 19 km from the city of Hazaribagh. The sanctuary covers an area of about 184 sq km and lies at an altitude of 615 m. The national Park has undulating terrain and steep hills dnesely covered with tropical forests and grass fields.

Wildlife at Hazaribagh National Park


The Hazaribagh National Park has collection of vivid varieties of wild animals like the Chital, Nilgai, Panther, Sambar, Sloth Bear, Tiger and Wild Boar. The Cheetal, Kakar, Nilgai, Sambar and Wild Boar are animals spotted very easily during dusk near waterholes or small lakes.But sadly, very few tigers are left in this reserve. According to 1991 Census, there were only 14 tigers left in the park.

A road, 111 km long, in the sanctuary serves as a path way for the tourists to the remotest corners and masonry towers of the park. The road offers a very exiting and clear view of wild animals to the tourists. Many tribes have also settled around the sanctuary. There are many watchtowers serving as the perfect hideouts to see the wildlife in its natural surroundings.

Other than the The tourists can visit the Canari Hill, which is at a distance of 5 km from the park. The Rajrappa Falls and the Suraj Kund Hot Spring are the must watch places near Hazaribagh, located at a distance of 89 km and 72 km respectively.

Hazaribagh has a Tropical Climate with ,more or less, hot summers and cold winters. The maximum temperature here during the summer months rises to a high of 41.1°C. The minimum temperature of the region drops to a low of 19.4°C. The monsoon months are between July and mid-September. The best time to visit the park is from October to March.

Through Airways - The nearest airport to the Hazaribagh National Park is at Ranchi, which 91 km away from the park. The airport is connected well through the air route with Calcutta, Patna, Lucknow and Delhi.

Through Railways - The nearest railway station to the Hazaribagh National Park is at Koderma, which is 59 km away.

Through Roadways - Hazaribagh town is connected by well-laid network of roads to Ranchi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Patna, Daltongunj, and Calcutta via Asansol-Govindapur. The Hazaribagh National Park is 19 km away from the Hazaribagh town.

The accommodation facility is available within the park. There is a small tourist lodge with four single rooms centrally located inside the park along with a small canteen next to it. At a short distance from this lodge is a Forest Rest house. Four cottages are also located nearby.
