Chandragiri Fort in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh


Chandragiri Fort was built in 11 the century and later taken over and renovated by the Vijayanagara Kings in the 14 the century. This Fort lies on the way to Tirupati from the souther parts of India, namely Bangalore, Chennai and parts of Kerala.

Chandragiri Fort is an historical and a well known tourist destination was built in the 11th century. Till recently Chandragiri Fort was in the suburbs of Tirupati and now it has been included in the Municipal corporation of Tirupati. Chnadragiri Fort is the entrance to all the vehicles travelling from the souther states of India, namely, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

About the Chandrgiri Fort in Andhra Pradesh


Chandragiri fort was built in the 11 th century by Immadi Narasimha Yadavaraya but was takn over and renovated by the Vijayanagara Kings in the 14 th century. The Chandragiri Fort is located on the top of a hill about 183 meters high, with an enclosed wall and a ditch all around protecting it from any attack. The wall and the ditch had ben built as a barrier against attackers. There are two mahals, Raja and Rani Mahals, located on the ground floor inside the Chandragiri Fort. You can find rich taste of Indian Art and Achitecture, which are seen in the stone carvings found on the walls of the mahals and the fort.

About the Raja Mahal Palace in the Chandragiri Fort


Raja Mahal Palace is located inside the Chandragiri Fort and was also built during the same time as the Chandragiri Fort. Raja Mahal Palace seems to have built using brick, lime mortar and stone but no timber anywhere.
The Raja Mahal palace is an archaeological Museum at present. The Palace has been built in the Indo Sarcen style of architecture and is a three storeyed structure with the crowning towers representing the Hindu architectureal style.

About Chanderi, a town near Chandragiri Fort


From atop the hill and the fort you can see the town of Chanderi at the eastern parts of the foothills. Chanderi is a small town in the state of Andhra Pradesh, which is well connected and is located at about 12 kilometers from the Tirupati airport. The place is easily accessible from all the towns and cities of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Tirupati airport and railway station are located closeby and the road travelling to Tirupati passes through Chanderi town. You can get accommodation facilities in Chanderi town.

How to Reach Chandragiri Fort and Chanderi Town


If you are travelling by air from abroad, you can reach Chennai, Bangalore or Hyderabad airports and take connection flights to Tirupati. If you are travelling from inside India you can easily get flights to Tirupati from the nearest airport.
If you are travelling by Rail you can get connection trains to Tirupati from any of the nearby railway stations.
