Araku Valley, the hill station of Andhra Pradesh


Araku valley is located at about 120 kilometers from the city of Vishakapatnam of the state of Andhra Pradesh very close to the Orissa state border. Araku Valley is a pleasant hill station where you can travel at any time of the year since it is pleasant through out.

Araku valley is a well known tourist attraction cum hill station located in the Eastern ghats of the state of Andhra Pradesh, at about 120 kilometers from Visakhapatnam, very close to the Orissa state border. Araku valley has valleys, water falls and streams flowing by the side of the railway track and the Ghat road.

There are two railway stations one at Araku and the other at Araku Valley on the Kothavalasa - Kirandul railway line of the Visakhapatnam division of the east Coast railway. Araku valley is a hill station with lush green forests and provides a true feeling of staying with the nature. There is no best time as such to visit Araku valley as the place is pleasant through out the year.

Other places to visit near Araku Valley


Ananthagiri hills is situated on the way to Araku valley and are famous for the coffee plantations. From the high altitude the Ananthagiri gives you panoramic views with stunning viewpoints.
Borra Caves is located at about 29 kilometers from the Araku valley. Borra Caves are famous for their stalactite and stalagmites which are believed to be a million years old and spread all over the eastern ghats.

Padmapuram Gardens is a garden with a good collection of flowering plants. There is a toy train the Padmapuram Gardens to take the guests around the garden. You can find tree top houses which are the main attractions of the Padmapuram gardens. You can also book a tree top house to spend the night. There is a Tribal Welfare department which also has an horticulture nursery cum training center at Padmapuram. The Gardens is open from 8 am to 12.30 pm then again from 2 pm to 5 pm

You will enjoy the trip more if you travel by train to Araku valley, as the train passes through the hill side and the numerous tunnels and return, by road. There are about 57 tunnels and bridges to greet you while you are travelling by rail to Araku Valley.
There is also a Tribal museum in the Araku Valley.


How to Reach Araku valley


First you have to reach Visakhapatnam airport
Araku Valley, by itself is a railway station and is connected to many other stations in the state of Andhra Pradesh and through them, connected to other parts of India, as well.
By Road: Regular bus services are there from Visakhapatnam .
So you have to reach Visakhapatnam either by train or by air and then travel towards Araku valley by rail or by road.
If you are planning to go to Araku valley, do go and visit Shimliguda railway station which is the highest railway station placed on the broad gauge of the Indian railways.
