Rajasthan International Folk Festival RIFF Jodhpur


Rajasthan International folk festival (RIFF) is a popular event which is organised every year in October in Jodhpur. This article gives a detailed knowledge about the festival along with the information about RIFF 2013.

Rajasthan International folk festival, which is also known as Jodhpur Folk festival, was started in the year 2007. The festival is organized by Mehrangarh Museum Trust and Jaipur Virasat Foundation. Every year around 200-300 artists and musicians come from all across the world at Mehrangarh Fort Jodhpur to participate in it. This festival is celebrated in the month of October for the duration Of five days. It is the best place to see the culture of the desert state, especially Marwar region of Rajasthan. Many folk dances and musical performances are given during the festival and Jodhpur becomes one of the major tourist places at this time of year.

Folk festival at Jodhpur includes performances by some local musicians from Rajasthan who narrate the history of the kings and their work for the society apart from giving a detailed description of the fights they fought for their countrymen. Many folk dances also take place at the same time. In daytime visitors like school children and families can come and have at a look at glorious history of Rajasthan and its culture.

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival is organized at Mehrangarh for four nights and three days at the occasion of Sharad Purnima under the full and bright moon. This fort is known for its detailed carvings which shows the great history of the state. The fort has been a home of many warriors and showcase the royal way to live the life. At the time of festival the Mehrangarh is decorated and its gardens and lanes are filled with the fragrances of flowers.

The festival includes different themes like intimacy, drama, or spiritual etc. Visitors can enjoy spending some time in the gardens of Chokhelao, discover the detailed embroidery on the walls , or can explore the beautiful city of Jodhpur, also known as Suncity or Blue City.

The shows starts after the sunset. In the past 5 years since its inception, RIFF has seen artists like Jamuna Devi, Babunath Jogi, Ustad Bahauddin Dagar, Sona Mohapatra as well as Ali Mohammed, Samandar Khan Manganiyar, and Pandit Hariharsharan Bhatt etc. enthralling the audience through their performances. This is one place where you will get to see all kinds of musical instruments like tabla, violin, sarangi, sitar, mridangam being played as well as classical dances from different parts of the country being performed. It truly gives you a divine feeling.
