Biography of Current Chief Minister of Rajasthan: Ashok Gehlot

Personal Life



Mr. Ashok Gehlot was born on 3 May 1951 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He belongs to Mandorva Rajput Gehlot family and possess great inbred wisdom. Lachman Singh Gehlot, was the father of current Chief minister of Rajasthan. He has completed his studies with Science and Law graduate degree and post graduation degree, MA in Economics. His Spouse Sunita Gehlot, and has a son and a daughter, Vaibhav Gehlot and Sonia Gehlot respectively. His denomination belongs to hindu and an active member of Indian National Congress (INC) since many years.

Political Career


He became 21st Chief Minister of the State of Rajasthan Preceded by Late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in 1998 and again assumed office preceded by Smt Vasundhara Raje Scindia in 2008. He took the vow as 23rd Chief Minister of the State of Rajasthan in 13 December 2008.

Mr. Gehlot was active in socialism from his schooling time and elected first time for 7th Lok Sabha in 1980–84 from Jodhpur Parliamentary Constituency(JPC). He has represented JPC, in the 8th Lok Sabha , 10th Lok Sabha, 11th Lok Sabha, and 12th Lok Sabha.

In February 1999, he got the membership of 11th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and was elected for 12th Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha and 13th Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha in 2003 and 2008 respectively. He has given his precious time with former Prime Ministers of India Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, P.V. Narsimha Rao in the Union Cabinet three times. He took the position of Union Deputy Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation in 1982 for two years and then became Deputy Minister for Sports in 1984 same for approx ten months. He has played a role of Union Minister of State, Tourism and Civil Aviation from December 31, 1984 to September 26, 1985 and then took position of Union Minister of State, Textiles with Independent Charge.

He also served as Home and PHED Minister for short time approx 5 months in Government of Rajasthan, 1989. He played General Secretary role of the All India Congress Committee in July 2004. In the age of 34, got the responsibilities of taking charge for President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in 1985. He was the member of the Consultative Committee on External Affairs in 11th Lok Sabha and was also member of the Consultative Committee on Communication in 10th Lok Sabha.

He was the member of Parliament in respective years:

  • 1980 - 1989: Seventh and Eighth Lok Sabha
  • 1991 - 1999: Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Lok Sabha


Chief Minister of Rajasthan


He took his first incumbency as Chief Minister of Rajasthan from December 1,1998 to December 8, 2003. He worked well in power generation, employment generation, infrastructure development, industrial and tourism promotion in his first tenure then Sh Gehlot lost the vote in Rajasthan State Assembly elections against BJP's chief ministerial candidate Smt Vasundhara Raje Scindia in 2003.

"Save Water, Save Electricity, Educate All" was the renowned watchword of Mr Ashok Gehlot.

In 13 December 2008, he was sworn in, for his second tenure as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Mr. Gehlot was found lean towards those companies that hired his son, Vaibhav Gehlot as their legal consultant. Government of Gehlot, awarded contracts to those companies. At last Gehlot denied all allegations and told that he is against nepotism but he faced many allegations against real estate issues and many more cases.

Benevolence


He has worked in refugee camps and also worked for the development of slums and jhuggi areas. He worked well to span of adult education via Nehru Yuva Kendra. He is the is the promoter president of Bharat Seva Sansthan.
