India's most famous painter Maqbool Fida Husain, passed away in London Hospital at the age of 95. Reports says that he died of a heart attack today Morning at 2.30am at the Royal Brompton Hospital London where he was admitted. M F Hussain burrial ceremony will take place in London on Friday, according to his wish that, he should be buried wherever he dies. He is survived by four sons and two daughters.

Biography of M F Husain


Born on September 17, 1915 at Pandharpur in Maharashtra to Fida and Zunaib, Husain did his initial schooling at Indore and later on moved from Indore to Painter M F HusainMumbai in 1935 where he studied at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. Husain painting career started with painting on cinema hoardings where he hardly earned just few rupees. His sheer creativity on paintings and his passion on colours brought him to limelight during 1940s. Husain first painting exhibition was held at Zurich in 1952 and from then he became popular in Europe and USA. In 1955 he got the most coveted Padmashree award. He has also received yet another prestigious award Padmabhushan award. Recently his three paintings were auctioned at 2.32 crores and one one of his painings have auctioned at a price of 23lakhs.

Husain had a great assoication with bollywood on which he experimented with cinema, where he worked with few movies as producer and director and M F Husains films includes 'Mohabbat' (1997) with Akshay Khanna and Maduri Dixit. In 2000 his next film was 'Gaja Gamini' starring Maduri Dixit and Nasuruddin Shah and another movie by Husain is 'Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities' in the year 2004 with Tabu and Kunal Kapoor. Husain autobiography was also made with movie title 'The Making of the Painter' casted by Shreyas Talpade. But his first film was 'Through the Eyes of a Painter' which has won Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival. Many bollywood actress inspired him and Husain's portrait on bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit is quite popular and reports says that M F Hussain's latest muse was Anushka Sharma, where he watched Anushka's 'Band Baaja Baraat' for twenty five times.

M F Husain Painting Controversies


M F Hussain can rightly be called as controversies favourite child as he was always in the news because a number of cases were filed in his name, for Husain controversial painting on Hindu deities in nude form hurting religious sentiments of those belong to Hindu Religion. Husain's caricature nude painting on Bharat Mata has created another controversy which was opposed by Vishva Hindu Parishad.

Similarly Muslim organisations like All India Muslim Council and Jamiat-ul-Husain controversial paintingUlema-e-Hind objected for Husain's film Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities on which one of the song which contains words taken from the Quran and as a result the movie was pulled out from theatres. He was issued with a non-bailable warrant for he has not responded to summons issued in relation to the obscene depiction of Hindu goddesses. He got several death threats and huge protest against his nude paintings and was forced to leave India in 2006 and since then he lived in self-imposed exile in Dubai. Later in 2010 he got Quatari citizenship after surrendering of his Indian passport.

Husain has got many supporters and critics. His supporters view point goes by the fact that one has to know the differene between nudity and nakedness. Nudity is natural while nakedness is obscene. Husain's paintings should not be taken as obscene, as nudity is natural. Turning back to the sculptures at Khajuraho which depicts day to day life of pople on ancient days where they stroll in the bushy forest devoid of any clothes. Husain justifies his nude paintings like this: 'In India nudity means purity'. Once he was asked about his one of his paintings of four world leaders including Gandhiji, in that picture Hitler was completely nude while Gandhiji had his towel around his waist. Husain replied that to show his hatred on Hitler and to humiliate him he portrayed him as naked.
