Famous Picnic Spot in Ganjam Buddhakhol


Buddhakhol is a place in Ganjam Ditrict. This place is now has become the famous picnic spot in Odisha. The scenic beauty of Buddhakhol always attracts tourist to visit the place again and again. This place has about 5 shiva temples, and hence popularly known as the Panch Mahadeva. All these 5 temples are on the hills, which makes the temples more beautiful on seeing from bottom.

Buddhakhol a spot 3 km away from a small town Buguda. This Buguda comes under the Ganjam district. Buddhakhol is a beautiful hill which accomodate 5 shiva temple in it and many old caves of buddhist. This place is also popularly known as Panch Mahadeva.

Buddhakhol is loved by the picnickers because of its chill waterfall. A small but beautiful waterfall which flows from the top of the hill.

The water flows down from 7 feet rock and through some bushes of big trees and in the same place where the waterfall falls, a small temple is there. picnickers love to take bath at this place. So keeping in mind, the govt has made some provisions there to take rest. People can go and sit there.

Whole of the hill is covered by steps, these steps made the tourist to climb the hill easily. There is a pond nearby and in the middle and on the edge of the pond there is a big temple of Shiva.

As said earlier there are about 5 Shiva temples and many relics of Buddha are there in some of the old caves. It is said that some snakes used to come to the Shiva idol to take the Milks offered to Lord shiva. The relics and ancient caves shows that in ancient times Buddhist people would be living here. And very near to this place there is a cave named Siddha gumpha which is believed to be the settlements of Buddhists in ancient times and Buddhist Monks used to perform Meditation in that Siddha Gumpha.

Nearest Railway station is Berhampur railway station which is 70 km from here. It is well connected by road. Nearest town mentioned above that is Buguda. This place is directly connected to Bhubaneswar by road. The place is connected to N.H 7 and NH 5 to reach Bhubaneswar.

Best Time to go Budddhakhol of Ganjam
Best season to go there will be during Shivratri. Though winter season is favorable, you can go there during winter vacation, if you want to enjoy the chilled water of perennial waterfall.
