Nine Odia Women In Indian Women’s Football team


Odisha Women’s Football team is created one more history in sports. As per the last September 2011 tour to Bahrain for three friendly matches, 23 players were selected by Indian team, where 9 players are only from Odisha. As per the statistics, this is first time to be highest number of players selected from a state. This article gives more information about our Odia women football players.

Recently Indian Women's Football team played an International friendly match at Bahrain in 17, 20 and 23 of September 2011; where out of 23 players 9 Odia players participated. Not only this, team captain is also an Odia player; her name is Sasmita Mallik. In addition, coach of team was also an Odia, Muhammad Shahid Jabar (Odisha Police). In overall we can say, it was totally Odia team supported to other Indians.

Indian women's football team consists of 3 goal keepers, Sita Sharma, Usharani Das, Swarnamayee Samal; 8 defenders, Ashem Romi devi, Gurumayum Radharani devi, Loitongbom Ashalata devi, Rashmita Patra, Alochana Senapati, Bijayalaxmi Sahu, Suprava Samal, Tuli Goon; 7 middle fielders, U Kamala Devi, U Premi Devi, Supriya Routroy, Paromita Sitt, Sharon Fernandez, N Montessori Chanu, Nosaba Alam; 5 goal keepers, I Parameshwari Devi, Nimalahamu Bhutia, Laisram Naobi Chanu, Pinki Bampal, and Sasmita Mallik (Captain). Head Coach Muhammad Shahid Jabbar, Assistant Coach Pratima Bishwas and Sukla Dutt, Manager Indu Choudhury.

Five Players in Indian Women's Football Team from Ali, Kendrapada

Out of 9 players, five players are only from Ali, Kendrapada. The names of those players are Suprabha Samal, Sasmita Mallik, Rashmita Patra, Alochana Senapati, and Bijayalaxmi Sahu. All these players, except Bijayalaxmi Sahu were trained by senior football coach Subodh Jena at Ali Athletic Association. Bijayalaxmi Sahu trained by senior football player Ajay Nayak of Rajkanika. Other than these, Gayatri Mallik, Anima Mallik, Jotsna Mallik were trained by former sports trainer Chitrasen patra.

Information about Indian Women's Football Team Captain Sasmita Mallik


Born and brought up by Judhistir Mallik and Shailabala Mallik of Goudapatana village at Ali of Kendrapada; very keen of football game from the age of eleven. Her father is the first promoter towards football. She first joins at Bhubaneswar sports hostel in the year 2002 and trained by Coach Vijay Kanoongo. In the year 2003, she played for National Sub junior Tournament by leading to Orissa team. In the year 2004, she travelled to China for participating International football league. From the year 2005, she travelled to South Korea, China, Malaysia, Kirgizstan, Iran and other countries participating in Sub Junior and Junior teams. In the year 2006 at Delhi, she highlighted with scoring 4 goals against Kirgizstan. Last year, she scored highest 21 goals against Imphal in National Senior Championship. Last year she performed well and win Gold medal in South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Championship and Southern Association of Amateur Golfers (SAAG) Championship. She is only 21 till now.
