Odishi dancer Nityanand is one of the most famous Odishi dancers in the world. Though he lost his one leg in accident but the accident failed to stop him dancing. He continued his Odishi dance with the one leg only. He clearly able to prove that sufferings are to strengthen a person; they may be slows down our journey like a speed breaker but not stop us.

Odishi Dancer Nityanand: His life history


Nityanand born on September 06, 1983 at Bideipur village, Vashudevpur block in Bhadrak district in Odisha. Nityananda kept his interest in dancing and acting form childhood only. He participated in plays, dances and speech in his primary education level only. His parents, Sri Ramachandra Das and Srimati Sumitra Das did not like his interest towards dance from childhood. They had different wish. They wished that their child should learn well and become a good officer; but Nityanand decided his career differently and dedicatedly.

He left his house without informing any family member and joined in Parvati Gananatya. He acted as a child artist and able create a special image in the Jatra Jagat (Stage plays). There he met his dance Guru (teacher) Sri Bimbadhar Das. He was returned back to his home. Then he again restarted his education in high school level. In his high school life he always missed his dance and Parvathi Gananatya shows. As soon as he completed his matriculation, he met his Guru Bimbadhar Das to continue his career in dancing and acting. Guru Bimbadhar Das helped him to get admission in Odisha Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar. In this Academy he met three great Odishi dancers, Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, Guru Bichitrananda Swain and Guru Aruna Mohanty. He learned not only Odishi dance but also different folk dances of Odisha in the Odisha Academy.

It was June 11, 2000; Nityanand faced an accident while he was going for an urgent work by a motor cycle. His vehicle collided with a truck face to face. He injured severely in that accident. Doctors were able to save his life but failed to protect his right leg. Due to sever injury he lost his right leg. Imagine the pain when a dancer feels without his leg. For him dance is not only a career but also his life. How could a person live without life?

Six months later he returned back to the Parvatii Gananatya. His Guru Bimbadhar Das played a major role to change his life and encouraged his to learn dance by one leg only. He helped me to do regular practice and became the creator of first handicapped Odishi dancer of the world. He proved that a 'Guru' is equal to Bramha, the creator; because he was able to create a new Nityananda, who was handicapped but full of confidence; and started his journey to win the world by his talent. Odishi Dancer Nityananda: His achievements


May 29, 2005; he participated in his first dance show after that tragedy which was organized at Ravindra Mandap. He danced on the theme of "Pangu Langhayate Giri..." means a person without legs (fully handicapped) can able to cross a mountain with his confidence. From that day his career is changed. Nityananda became a new dancing icon for the world. He not only participated in many cultural programs in Odisha but also participated in national and international level shows.

After this he never looked back and achieved many achievements in his career. He become first handicapped Odishi dancer in India and received many awards for his talent. In 2009, he received National Ability Mastery Award in Chennai. In 2011, he recived State Redcross award. Not only these he received many awards like Super Ideal Award, Singaramani Prize, Zee Tv "Ashayen" prize, Panchsakha award and many more.

The tragedy failed to stop him. It can able to make his physically handicapped but not mentally. Really this Odia dancer is an inspiration to many people. He proved that a person can achieve anything by strong will power. By watching him I can say "Yes, it is true, Pangu Laghayate Giri."
