Tezpur is situated in central Assam in the Sonitpur district along the bank of Brahmaputra river. Tezpur is a historical town and many historical places can be found in Tezpur. Like the rest of the region, Tezpur is blessed with great natural beauty with lusciously flora and fauna scattering all over the place. Small hills scattered all over the place with snow laden mountains in the background is a treat to eyes and the soul.

Tezpur is situated in central Assam is well connected to other parts of the state through roads and is quite near to the capital of Assam- Dispur. One can easily take a bus for Tezpur from Guwahati also. Tezpur has lots of archaeological buildings and temples which draw tourists from many parts of the country. Mahabhairab temple


The Mahabhairab temple is the most famous temple in Assam. It is located on the top of a hill in the town. It is a very old temple and is believed to be constructed by demon king 'Banasur' to worship 'Lord Shiva.' The temple is famous for its Shiva lingam which is considered to be the largest Shiva linga in the world. The temple is especially flocked during Shiva ratri festival.

Da-parbatia


Da-parbatia is another famous temple of Tezpur. It is situated a few kilometres from Tezpur town. The temple is famous for its ancient fine art speciments which are a reminiscence of sculptural art in Assam.
bamuni hills

Bamuni hills


Bamuni hills is known for its various sculptures carved on the stones in the hill. The hill is also known as Usha Pahar and is located quite near to the Tezpur town. The sculptures are believed to be carved in the 9th and 10th century A.D and attract many tourists and archaeological students.

Chitralekha Udyan


Chitralekha udyan (also known as Cole park) is one of the most famous tourist spots in Tezpur. The park was built by the British commissioner Mr. Cole and hence the park was named after him. It is one of the most beautiful places in Tezpur town and the main attractions of the park are the massive stone pillars erected in various parts of the park. Also many sculptural remains from Bamuni hills can be found here.
