International Minjar Festival, Chamba 2013


The opening ceremony of the International Minjar Fair 2013 was held on 28 July in which the governor of the state Urmila Singh was the Chief Guest. This festival was continuing for the 14 days in which so many cultural and other program will be takes place. The details of the festival are given in the article.

International Minjar Fair which is celebrated in the Chamba district every year in the month of July. This year the opening ceremony was held on the 28th July and which was continues for the 14 days, in which so many cultural programs were taken place. This Fair was firstly celebrated in the 16th century by the Local King of the Chamba. Here basically we are talking about the history of the Fair and what are the main attractions of the fair 2013.

History of the International Minjar Fair

This fair was firstly started in the 16th century by the Local King of the Chamba, Sahil Verman. This fair is basically a sign of the love between the brother and sister relations. This fair begins than sister put a red thread on the shirt of her brother and pray her long life, in turn brother promises to his sister for his security. On the last day of the fair, this thread is flown in the water.

This festival was celebrated every year in the historical ground of Chamba. When this fair started than the local artist of the Chamba's performs on the local songs. But as the times changes and the mind of the generations also changes, so not so much local songs are performed.

The king of the Chamba was when lived, than he goes to the Ravi River for blowing the red thread by sitting on the elephant. In front of them the entire Local's Devi and Devata's are also taken to the river across the bazaar of Chamba.

What is Minjar?

On the beginning of the fair sister put a red thread on her brother shirt and pray for the god for his long life. This red thread is known as "Minjar".

Main attraction of IMF (International Minjar Fair) 2013

In the opening ceremony of the fair there are so many cultural programs was performed by the local artist. These programs was continued for the 7 days in the evening from 4pm to 12pm, and on the last two days, this year Daler Mehandi, Mamata Sharma and Javed Ali were came and enjoying the audience on 4th August.
During these seven days there are so many exhibition programs are held by the Private as well as Government organisation which will tells the cultural, historical and industrials information of the Chamba.

On the 4th July, there was Wrestling in which so many wrestlers participate across the country. The first three winners will be awarded with cash money and prize. Other events which were held in this fair are Hockey and Football match was started on the 28 July.

Live program of Night Shows in five different district

This is the first time that night program was seen live on TV in five different district including Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Kullu. So the peoples of these areas can watch the live programs in the house. These programs will be available on the City local channel.

How to Reach this Place

This fair was celebrated in the historical ground which is about 100 meters from the bus stand on the civil hospital road. You can easily reach this place by bus as well as taxi. This city is connected to the different parts of the country by NH (National Highways). Distances from various places are given below:
From Shimla it is about 430 km
From Chandigarh it is about 320 km
From Delhi it is about 630 km
From Mandi it is about 350 km.

The nearest railway station and airport is in Pathankot Punjab from where this place is about 100 KM. you can easily reach this place by bus from Pathankot.
