Biligiriranga Hills Sanctuary


Biligiriranga Hills Sanctuary is situated at Yelandur in Kollegal Taluk of Chamarajanagar District in Karnataka, the famous hill shrine Biligirirang Swamy temple is also situated here.

This is a dense hill station situated in the south eastern part of Karnataka and it is a border place for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu too, Biligiriranga Hills Sanctuary is a protected forest area and as a matter of fact this is located at the confluence of Eastern and Western ghat sections. This sanctuary is situated at Yalandur in Kollegal Taluk of Chamarajnagar district.

Being situated at Ghat section it has housed rare and abundant varieties of Fauna, this sanctuary and hill is extended to join another famous hill called Mahadeswara hills.

Biligiriranga Hills Sanctuary - Flora and fauna


This Biligiriranga Hills is densely forested area one can find many tigers here and an survey report has estimated around 17 tigers are housed here along with Sambhar, Chital, Shy and Barking Deer, Four Horned Antelope, Leopards, Wild dogs, lesser Cats, Sloth Bears, giant flying squirrel and also this place has 254 species of different variety of birds.

This temple along with Lord Venkateha are most famous in almost entire state as these two temples are situated at the highest peak level of the hill range and according to locals it is called as Biligiriranga, an annual car festival for this deity will be held in the month of April which attracts several pilgrims from other places too.

The right time to visit this sanctuary is from June to October which is comfortable but the relaxing season will be early summer.

Biligiriranga Hills Sanctuary - How to reach


Via road one has to move to reach this sanctuary, if from Bangalore Bangalore > Kanakpura > Halagur > Shivasamudram > Malavalli > B.R. Hills and another route is from Bangalore > Maddur > Malavalli > Kollegal > Yellandur > B.R. Hills, and the road condition is really good for making travel on road.

Other deviated routes if one wants to travel through the air, the nearest airports are available at Bangalore International airport which is around 225 km away from Biligiriranga Hill Sanctuary and another airport at Coimbatore Domestic airport which is approximately 175 km away from this place. Nearest railway station is available at Mysore which is around 175 km from this place and through road one has to get down at Kyathadevara gudi and also called as K.Gudi.

Things not to forget to carry are warm clothes, trekking gears and basic first aid kit.
