A Bird's Eye View


As mentioned earlier, naturally the biggest attraction at Nandi Hills is the view from the peak. The fort walls have slight gaps, through which you can get a bird's eye view of the landscape below. In fact, you may just get a few beady looks from an eagle too!

The Coolest Place in Nandi Hills, Karnataka


There is a small cave called Brahmashram in Nandi Hills. This cave has been naturally created from large boulders. Enter this cave and you will instantly feel the cool air and the silence engulfing you in a serene calm.

Temples in Nandi Hills


You should certainly visit the ancient temple of Sri Bhoga Narasimha which is located on the lower section of Nandi Hills. At the top of the Nandi Hills are two more temples: one is the Yoganandeeshwara Temple dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Shiva. Built during the dynasty of the Chola kings, this temple is guarded by Lord Shiva's bull, Nandi, from whom the name of the Hills originates. Don't forget to view the metal figurines known as Dwarapalakas. Another temple at the top of Nandi Hills is dedicated to Sri Ugra Narasimha.

Tippu Sultan Fort at Nandi Hills, Karnataka


While the palace of Tippu Sultan at Nandi Hills is not open to the public, you can definitely explore the ruins of Tippu Sultan's Fort. There is a special section of the Fort known as Tippus' Drop. It was here apparently that Tippu Sultan severely punished his prisoners – by flinging them off the face of the cliff from this spot; it was a guaranteed death as it is a nearly 600 feet drop. Hence it got its name 'Suicide Point'. Another interesting spot in the Tippu Fort is the stone doorway on the north-eastern side, which is said to have facilitated horse-riding soldiers to gain access to the fort. Even more exciting, there is supposed to be a secret passage on the western side of the fort which was used by the royal family to escape during an unexpected attack from the enemy.

Muddenhalli Museum at Nandi Hills, Karnataka


The Muddenhalli Museum, located within a short distance of Nandi Hills, was at one time the residence of Sir M.Visveswaraya, the founder of the State of Karnataka. The museum has a good collection of photographs and books of Sir M.Visveswaraya. One can view not only his prestigious medals, such as the Bharat Ratna Medal, but also his personal items, including his pen and watch.

Amrit Sarovar Lake at Nandi Hills, Karnataka


The Amrit Sarovar Lake is known as the 'Lake of Nectar' because the waters of the Lake are said to be sweet. What's more, if the moon is in its full glory, the waters literally sparkle. Ringed by lush green slopes, the Amrit Sarovar Lake is a popular picnic spot.
