The Agumbe is at the peak point in the western ghats, the major attraction of this place is the sunset it attracts thousands of tourists, the main sunset viewpoint is around 825 meters from the sea level. Shimoga is the nearest city and also its district headquarters, being ghat section the roads are bit steep with several sharp curves to reach this place, the ideal period to visit this place is from November to January as this is the period where the sky will be clear and one can witness the sunset clearly.

How to reach Agumbe


If the starting point is from Bangalore one has to reach Shimoga it is around 280 km from Bangalore, in the first route it is through Tumkur which is 70 km from Bangalore which is a National Highway, next point to reach is Tiptur which 60 km from Tumkur has to move further to reach Arasikere which is 35 km from Tiptur, next point is Kadur which is 50 km from Arsikere, next is Birur 15 km away from Arsikere, after that it will be Tarikere 25 km from Birur, next Bhadravati which is 20 km from Birur from Bhadravati it is around 15 km away is Shimoga.

Another route is one has to proceed towards Channarayapatna which is 145 km from Bangalore which is on the National Highway No.48, take right deviation which leads to Arsikere, Kadur, Birur, Tarikere, Bhadravati then next is the destination Shimoga.

From both the routes little journey is required from Shimoga, next point to reach is Thirthahalli which is 60 km away then from Thirthahalli Agumbe is around 30 kms, Agumbe is in the border of Chikmagalur.

One needs to include Agumbe in their Hassan or Chikmagalur trip, the exact time to reach Agumbe to see the scenic beauty of sunset is around 5 p.m.

Sringeri is very near to Agumbe can be visited which is at around 15 km distance but it is better to carry some eatables and drinking water as only a small hotel is available at Agumbe, no accommodation is available here, may have to stay either at Shimoga or at Chikmagalur..
