Srirangapatna is a historical place which is in Mandya district of Karnataka State, which one can reach this place which is at Bangalore-Mysore Highway and it is just 15 km away from Mysore. Srirangapatna is also called in as Island Fortress, as being the capital place for Hyder Ali and also for his son the great warrior Tippu Sultan who was also called as the Tiger of Mysore, here the Museum of present day was his Summer Palace, he lost his life after battling with English Kingdom for a long time, the place where his body was kept is a sacred place for the people of that community.

Srirangapatna – Other places to see and how to reach


Dariya Daulat, this place can be reached when if one traveling from Bangalore to Mysore, has to get down at Srirangapatna, this place is near to Bus Stand where as the visitors who travels through train has to walk a kilometer or two, the nearby place is Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, tourists can visit this temple first as they find it first and later can visit other places, all places in Srirangapatna can be visited within 3-4 hours. After visiting all the place other nearby place is Ranganathittu the world famous bird sanctuary can also be visited, another well known place Brindavan Gardens is very near to this place can also be visited.

The most famous sleeping statue of Sri Ranganatha Swamy can be seen here, ample car parking facility here, inside the temple photography or videography not allowed, moreover there is no security for these equipments as nobody there look after, it is better to keep all belongings in their own vehicle if they have visited Srirangapatna in own vehicles. Several handicraft shop are available outside the temple, another place which was famous in the yesteryears is Colonel Bailey's Dungeon which was used as a jail, here photography and videography is allowed, the holy Kaveri water is flowing here, near to this place ample facility is there to park vehicles.

Ranganathaswamy Temple

Other important places to visit here are the death place of Tippu Sultan, an ruined palace called as Lalmahal Palace, Thomas Inman' Dungeon and also an Obelisk which is a war memorial now all these places can be visited in one stretch as all of them are nearby. One can find another famous mosque called as the Jamia Masjid can also be visited.

Dariya Daulat Bagh is available in the other side of Bangalore-Mysore road, this place one should not miss, as this monument is situated at an kilometer away from the main road, another Summer Palace which was constructed in the year 1784 and there is an entry fee to visit this place, still cameras will not have additional charges where as video cameras are charged at Rs.25, but inside the palace taking photography is strictly prohibited but they can carry cameras inside. One can find the artistic work inside the palace as all the walls has been painted with war scenes and also portraits of several king who ruled this place. Several swords and canons which were used in their period were kept for show, a well maintained and a beautiful park is available for tourists to relax, which is also furnished with well maintained toilets, no parking fee is charged here and the visiting hours here at this place is between morning 9 to evening 5.

Gol Gumbaz is just 2 km away from Dariya Daulat Bagh, this tomb and mosque was built by Tipu Sultan in tribute to his beloved father Hyder Ali along with his cenotaphs there is one more will found that is of Tipu Sultan's wife Fakr-Un-Nisa, even many of his relatives cenotaphs were also there. These are all constructed in the typical Islamic architectural style, even here ample parking place is available, entry to here will be charged at Rs.5 per person and for vehicle parking it is Rs.20 per vehicle.

Golgumbaz

Another place to visit here at Srirangapatna is Dodda Gosai Ghat which is very near to Gol Gumbaz, Triveni Sangama [confluence of three rivers], Nimishamba Temple and all these places are located at Ganjam which is very near to Srirangapatna it is around 2 km away.

Adjacent to Kaveri river one ancient temple of Sri Kashi Visweswara Temple is there on the banks of the river for which boating facility has been provided with charges, all these places can be considered as picnic spots

The regular and normal route for visiting all these places is first proceed towards Gosai ghat from Dariya Daulat, and come back and proceed towards Gumbaz, and then move on to Triveni Sangam. After Triveni sangam, you have come back in the same way and take a right turn after Gumbaz to visit Nimishamba temple.

Srirangapatna – How to reach


The nearest airport is Mysore domestic airport, 14 km away from this place, many taxi facilities were also available from the airport, they may charge around Rs.300 from Mysore.

Buses ply from Mysore with much frequency including state transport as all buses leading towards Bangalore has to pass through Srirangapatna which includes A/C, super fast, Deluxe buses.

Mysore is the nearest railway station many passenger trains will stop at Srirangapatna, it is better to alight at Mysore as lot of buses available to this place or else one can hire taxies.
