He born at Kinnigoli which was in South Kanara but now spread in both the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka, he has completed his graduation in Medicine and also Post Graduation in General Surgery both from Kasturba Medical College at Mangalore. He acquired his training in Cardiac Surgery from the well known Hospital in the United Kingdom the Guys Hospital.

When he came back to India in the year 1989 at the initial stages he has worked at B.M.Birla Hospital in Kolkata, later he moved on to Bangalore where he worked at Manipal Heart Foundation at Manipal Hospital at Bangalore, many of his admirers were spread all over the world few of them are from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and especially many are from Southern part of Asia.

He is first person to introduce the concept of assembly line heart surgery and greatness of this is till today it has achieved zero level mortality.
