Kalabaland Glacier



Kalaband is a popular glacier of Uttarakhand state of India. It is a glacier of Himalaya and is located in the east Kumaun region of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand in India. This glacier is situated north to the Milam Valley and west to the Darma valley. This glacier lies just
above the Yankcharand Sankalp
glaciers which is also a name of a popular glacier. This glacier when combines with Yankchar glacier then form Sankalp glacier.
Kalaband glacier system is a mixed glacial system of Kalabaland-Burfu Kalganga glacier which are the basis of Kalaband glacier. Kalaband glacier is15 km in length.

A number of popular peaks are located around Kalaband glacier. These peaks acts as a trekking destination for the visitors. Various peaks are-
  • Bamba Dhura
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,334 metres above sea level.
  • Chiring We
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,559 metres above sea level.
  • Suli Top
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,300 metres above the sea level.
  • Trigal peak
    • This peak is situated at an altitude of about 5,983 metres above sea level.
  • Burphu
    Dhura peak
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,144 metres above sea level.
  • Suitilla peak
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,373 metres above the sea level.
  • Kalabaland Dhura peak
    • This peak has an altitude of about 6,105 metres above the sea level.

Kalabaland Glacier is surrounded by the horseshoe-shaped Himalayan situated spots Goriganga and
Lassar Yankti valley and it lies in the east of the Milam Glacier.
Ralam gad river is the only river which originates from the glaciers of Kalabaland. It is also a combination of two other glaciers those are Yangchar
and Sankalp.

This glacier can be accessed by trekking to this glacier. The trekking way to this glacier is through the route-
Munsiyari–Lilum–Pilthi–Sapodair-Ralam–Sankalpa Glacier–Kalabaland Glacier.
