Uttarakhand Government has decided to review 60 hydel projects in Uttarakhand which are situated on Ganga basin in Uttarakhand. This news was announced by Uttarakhand environment ministry. According to Uttarakhand Environment Ministry they are going to review 60 hydel projects in the Ganga basin and will decide there future. All the hydel projects are reviewed because of a study done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee.

It is believed that all the hydel projects are reviewed because of upcoming assembly election in Uttarakhand in next year. This move is seen as an perfect attempt of Uttarakhand Government to crush the movement.

Uttarakhand government had asked IIT Roorkee, to conduct a study on water flow of about 100 hydel projects on Ganga Basin.

Rivers on which hydel projects are established in Uttarakhand


Hydel Projects are established on following rivers in Uttarakhand- Bhagirathi and
Alakananda
- these two rivers are the main tributaries of the Ganga and these rivers has a vital effect on local flaura and fauna of Uttarakhand. IIT Roorkee will make a study of all these hydel projects in Uttarakhand and after result the future of hydel projects will be decided.
