Rahat Tasleem Biography Profile Family Personal Life Career

Rahat Tasleem's entry into the world was not considered auspicious by her mother, who, like many people in India even today, consider girls to be "unlucky". Rahat was eager to study and had a great interest in academics, but was married off at a very young age, despite her wish to first complete her education.

Rahat Tasleem did complete her education and became a graduate, but realized it was important to work to supplement the family income. Although in her community the women are generally forced to stay at home and rarely allowed to step outside, a determined Rahat was eager to become financially independent. Since she was very good at stitching clothes, she started a small venture of tailoring from her home in Giridih, Jharkhand and even taught young girls her skills. Her earnings of approx. Rs.3000/- supplemented her husband Imtiyaz Ahmad's small salary from his job at Mica Trading Corp of India. However, it was not enough to pay for the monthly household needs and the education of their two children, 10 year old son Faisal Iqbal and 7 year old daughter Tarannum Taslim. Rahat had always wanted to become a teacher and improve life for herself and her children. That wish was on the way to getting fulfilled when she decided to take part in KBC 4, with the aim of paying off her loans, setting up a large boutique, and giving good quality education to her kids.

Rahat Tasleem's Journey to KBC 4 Hot Seat

The 37-year old Rahat Tasleem still remembers that auspicious date when her journey to KBC 4 began: October 6th, 2010. She particularly remembers this date as she had only Rs.3/- left as balance in her mobile phone account. She decided to spend that last amount on answering the question for KBC 4 registration – it was a remarkable shot in the dark for somebody who does not even have an account in any bank! Rahat replied to the KBC 4 mythological question, and got the much-awaited call for auditions the very next day – which happened to be her birthday and wedding anniversary!

Having been selected for the auditions, preparations for KBC 4 then began in right earnest. Rahat decided to brush up on her general knowledge, having already a fair knowledge of matters related to arts and science during her school and college years. Rahat was eventually selected to participate in KBC 4 and with some savings and some borrowed money, Rahat flew to Mumbai.

The rest, as they say, is history!
