Kolhapuri Chappals is also one of the handicrafts of Maharashtra which is now very well known all over the world. It is named after the town of its origin "Kolhapur". In Kolhapur, these chappals are called "Pie-taan". These chappals are known for its durability.

Process of Preparation



Hides of buffalo are processed and grazed. Grazing of leather makes the leather hard enough for daily wear and tear use. Each piece, complete with intricate patterns, is handcrafted and made of leather, even the cords used to stitch the sandals are made of leather. An amazing thing to note here is that not a single iron nail is used in the entire manufacture process. All these efforts then tune into a durable and beautiful Kolhapuri Chappal.

Kolhapuri Chappals are very comfortable to use and go quite well with all Indian & some western outfits too. How to use



Before using the chappal first of all dip the chappal either in Dahi or in Ghee and get it dried. After that the same chappal is dipped in Mustard Oil and further get it dried for minimum one hour then the chappal becomes very soft and ready for use.

Kolhapuri chappals are not too heavy on the budget, they are sold at prices that range from Rs 100 to Rs 3,000. Chappal prices vary according to the quality of leather and the design.
