Biography of T.M.Sounderarajan – Playback Singer

TM Sounderarajan was the famous Playback Singer in Tamil film industry. He was born on 24th March,1923 at Madurai. He was the first singer to introduce the stereo system in tamil songs. He was popularly and shortly called as TMS. TMS is still actively singing for tamil film industry. TMS married in his early age. He was studied only SSLC but his voice of songs were very top all over South India.

Career of T.M.Sounderarajan

TMS had been started his voice at the age of 7 by singing songs. His role model persons were M.K.Thyagaraja Bhagavathar(MKT) and P.U.Chinnappa Bhagavathar. He learn Carnatic music at Sourashtra High School. He started to sing a songs in stage competition at the age of 21.

MKT adviced and noticed him each and every day. By his advice TMS identify and realized himself will be a very famous in film world. His debut song in the film "Mannathi Mannan" on the year 1960. TMS had a powerful voice, good pronounciation and modulation with high pitches.

Film Entry of TMS

TMS given voice to most of the toppest actors like M.G.R, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Rajendran, Jai Shankar, AVM Rajan, Muthuraman, Nagesh etc moreover in South Indian film industry voice by TMS. He sang many devotees song of Lord Muruga on him. TMS worked in Kovai Royal Talkies for a monthly salary of only Rs.50. He started to sing a song from the year 1946 and still active in tamil film industry.

In 1946, S.M.Subbaiah Naidu gave chance for TMS to sing a songs for the "Krishna Vijayam". TMS was improved by him by the songs which was wrote by Bharathidasan. Some years TMS didn't get a chance to sing songs. One day Director Mahadevan requested him to ask a chance in AVM Production. From the Diretor , he got many chances.

Actor Sivaji Ganesan impressed by the voice of TMS has same as his voice. So TMS got the chance to sing all the songs for Sivaji Ganesan. All the songs were instant and greatly hits in tamil film industry. "Konjum Kiliyana Pennai.." song is the first song by TMS for Sivaji Ganesan in the film "Koondukili". So TMS became the permanent singer. TMS maintained his playback for Actor M.G.R and Sivaji till end of 1977 and 1995 respectively. He also song many duet songs with many female toppest singers.

TMS sang more over 10,500 tamil film songs and 2,500 devotional and other language film songs. He also acted in some of the tamil films. Every songs by TMS is very memorable and evergreen melody and he was impressed by his magical voice in South Indian Film industry.
