Koottu is a very simple recipe and is a famous dish preferred by South Indians. It is a healthy dish and is harmless to the stomach because of little usage of spices. Koottu mixed with hot rice and ghee is most preferred by children. Peerkkangai koottu, pudalangai koottu, muttaikose koottu, kattirikkai koottu are also prepared in the same way.

Ingredients for Tamil Recipe Chow Chow Koottu


chowingChow Chow - 2 medium size
Moongh dal - 1 cup
Green chilli - 2
Big onion - 1(finely chopped)
Sambar powder - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Coconut milk - 2 tablespoon

To season
Ghee - 1 teaspoon
Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
Broken urad dal - 1 teaspoon
A sprig of Curry leaf

Procedure for Tamil Recipe Chow Chow Koottu


1. Cut chow chow into small pieces.

2. Cook the dal in a pressure pan with 2 cups of water.

3. Now to the cooked dal add the vegetable along with 2 cups of water.

4. Next add the green chillies, turmeric powder, onions and the sambar powder.

5. Close the pan and cook in medium fire for 10 minutes.

6. When it becomes slightly thick add the coconut milk and season with the seasonings.
