Music festivals of Tamilnadu


A number of festivals are celebrated in Tamilnadu including Mahashivaratri, Pongal Festival, Karthigai Deepam Vinayaka Chaturthi, Deepavali, Ram Navami, Srikrishna Jayanthi (Gokulashtami), Ramzan, Christmas, and Easter, Navaratri, Akshaya Tritiya, Budha Purnima, Mahavir Jayanthi and Bakrid.

Music festivals of Tamilnadu


A number of music and dance festivals are celebrated in Chennai. These include:

Natyanjali Festival
It is held at Chidambaram in the month of February-March giving homage to Cosmic Dancer, Lord Shiva. Chidambaram's gold-roofed temple is the place where this grand festival is celebrated by the people. People from all over India participate ion the festival as dancers and morever a number of people come from different parts of the world to see the grand Natyanjali Festival .

Thai Poosam Festival
During this festival celebrated in the month of January-Febraraury Lord Murugan is worshiped by the people. People also carry kavadi with a belief that they are carrying their own burdens.

Dance Festival Mamallapuram
Another grand festival of Tamilnadu that starts on 25th of December and is celebrated for about six weeks. Mahabalipuram is the location of this festival where people from a number of places come and performs various forms of dance in order to celebrate this festival together.

Velankanni Festival
This auspicious festival is celebrated at Velankanni Church. It is celebrated in remembrance of Virgin Mary's who was supposed to have healing powers.

Summer Festival
It is celebrated at Nilgiris or the trunnion Hill stations of Tamilnadu. It is also known as The Annual Tea and Tourism Festival. This festival is characterized by various fruit and boat races in Tamilnadu.

Vaikasi Visakam
This festival is characterized by worship of Lord Muruga. Tiruchendur and Thiruparankundran is the location of celebration of this festival. People carry milk pots with them on this day. On this day Budha Purnima is also celebrated.

Chithirai Festival
It is celebrated on the full moon day in the first month of Tamils. On this day marriage of Goddess Meenakshi, with Lord Shiva is performed.
