About OMR - IT Corridor


After the introduction of 6 way road IT corridor scheme at OMR the name have been changed into Rajiv Gandhi Salai. From then onwards at various places like Thoraipakkam, Sholinganallur, Navallur has been installed with toll plaza and vehicles using this road for their service are being charged with some toll fee rates based on the type of the vehicles.

The Rajiv Gandhi Salai holds the place of various it companies and from Chennai Mathya Kailash to Navaallur of about 20 kms several IT companies like Infosys, Tidel park, Polaris, Wipro, TCS, HCL and many more in number exists in IT corridor. As per the survey an approximate of 12 thousands cars make use of this road in a day and in addition to that several college students and buses also access this road.

As the road is filled with companies and colleges it make employees, students and private users to access this road moreover it takes more time of access the toll plaza during peak hours especially during startup and end up of the offices and this leads to huge traffic and make them frustrate over using this roads. Previously the car accessing this roads was charged Rs 35/- per day and Rs 60/- for frequent usages and Rs 1450/- for frequent monthly access. But recently the department have changed it scheme and rates and introduced smart card facility. The user can pay Rs 800/- per month and get his smart card. The user has been give with the flexibility of accessing the roads 60 times in a month and later has also the facility of recharging the card. The Tamil Nadu road development corporation says that the above schemes has been introduced in order to benefit the private car and travels car users. The department has decided to conduct the trip as 2 if a car moves from Mathiya Kailash to Navallur once.

The issue of smart card was started on 21st November 2011 and till 15th December 2011 the smart card can be issued for free and after the due date Rs 200/- are being charged once for issue of smart card.

Types of Toll Plaza at OMR - IT Corridor, Chennai


Different types of Toll Plaza exists on IT Corridor and they are being named as Main Toll Plaza(Entrance Toll Plaza),Exit Toll Plaza and Satellite Toll Plaza all these Toll Plazas are being centralized in control. Several roads like Thoripakkam – Pallavaram Radial Road, Sholinganallur – Medavakkam Link Road along with Sholinganallur – ECR Link Road connecting the OMR are being provided with various sets of Toll Plaza and according to the data there are around 2 Toll Plaza on OMR and 3 Toll Plaza on the roads leading to OMR – IT Corridor. The road provided with these Toll Plaza are being constructed with different lanes like 4 Lanes,6 Lanes and 12 Lanes.

A huge number of vehicles of different categories are accessing this road as their service in large numbers on daily basis and the vehicles accessing these roads are being charged with different rates based on their types of vehicles. Moreover there are different types of trips and passes like Single Trip, Return Trip, Daily, Monthly and Monthly Pass Trip. The minimum charge for a single trip would be Rs 7 and the maximum fare of about Rs 146 where as the minimum charge would be Rs 12 for Return Trip and maximum charge would be Rs 265 for Return Trip. In addition there are also multiple daily entry rates for a day and multiple daily entry rates for a month along with monthly passes.
