Rules for selecting players in a team at the IPL auction 2012


The Cricket Board of Council has 5 ways of rule for franchise to acquire their required players. The players only with their agreement and approval are being allowed for trading them at the auctions. The franchises involved in trading have to pay the difference between old and new contract price. In few cases if there is a huge difference between old and new contract prices then the difference amount are being shared between the players and franchise selling the player. Accordingly the Team Composition Rules say that:
  1. The squad should consist of 16 members excluding a physic and a coach.
  2. A team is being given right to choose 10 foreign players but only a maximum of 4 players should be allowed in the team for playing the match.
  3. A minimum of 8 local players must be in each squad along with 2 players from BCCI under 22 in each squad.

Latest news about 5th IPL auction 2012


The 5th IPL auction was held last week Feb 2012 at Bangalore and several players from different countries were put up into the auction. Among the list of players involved in the auction all rounder Ravindra Jadeja went into the auction for the highest rate of about Rs 9.72 crores and he was purchased by Chennai Super Kings. To make a note here two teams Chennai super kings and Deccan chargers were ready to afford the above amount and were competing over each other for the player and due to this a tie breaker occurred and finally Jadeja was purchased by Chennai Super Kings.

A total of 8 Indian players along with 144 players were put up in the auction but among the listed players only 25 players from different countries were bought up by the franchise. As Pune warriors this time got out of IPL a total of 8 teams only participated in the respective auction. Moreover as one of the oldest Indian players V.V.S. Laxman was not bought by any teams involved in the auction and so he was out of chance to play in forthcoming IPL match. Current Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene was purchased for Rs 6.80 crores by Delhi Dare Devils and Sunil Narein was luckily purchased for Rs 3.40 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders comparatively to the other leading players. Young fast bowler Vinay kumar was bought for Rs 4. 86 crores by Bangalore Royal Challengers and this time Pakistan all rounder Asar Mohammed was bought for Rs 97.20 lakhs by Kings XI Punjab team and he is the only player from Pakistan to participate in this IPL season.
