Shops opposite to Chennai Central sealed Due to the Metro Rail Project
Recently this Saturday due to the metro Rail project the stores opposite to the central railway station were sealed. It is a matter of fact that about 50 shops that are between Pallavan Saalai and Hotel Chennai Towers are been sealed by the government officials till the completion of the project.

One of the most important things that the Tamil Nadu Government is planning to do is the metro train Project which was started before several months and it is said to connect the stations like Chennai central, Vadapalani, Koyambedu, Saidapet etc and is extended till mount station. As the project has been started long before and would be completed in a year a two almost all the people are waiting for this. The people are more eager not because of the sophisticated metro but as there would be more space rather that the congested way that is now available.
Recently this Saturday due to the metro Rail project the stores opposite to the central railway station were sealed. It is a matter of fact that about 50 shops that are between Pallavan Saalai and Hotel Chennai Towers are been sealed by the government officials till the completion of the project. It is said that the hotels and other shops received a notice before 30 days / a month to vacate the place for the purpose of metro train and as these stores were not locked the officials had to seal them. There were a lot of policemen dispersed at the place while the shops were sealed so as to stop any problems caused by the sealing down of shops and the water supply for the hotels that were locked were also stopped so as to discourage the opening of stores.
There was a lot of argument between the hotel managers and the officials on this regard. The words of one of the shopkeeper are like this "we have established the shops and hotels before many years and we are depending on these shops for our livelihood and if all of the sudden we are asked to vacate means what about our livelihood". It senses somewhat correct according to the shopkeepers moreover the shops are going to be demolished in a matter of two or three days.
I would say that the though the government property should not be let in the hands of individuals it is definitely the act of the government that is entirely responsible for such an act. The shops have been established before several years and if the government had an idea to make use of the land they must have not let the shops and hotels in this place. There are lots of shops that are going to be demolished and most of them who would be affected by the act of this would be poor labors who lead their life with the meager income they get from these small scale businesses.
It is not only the shopkeepers who are going to suffer but there are many more customers who are working near the shops and hotels and are dependent on these hotels for their food. I personally feel that the government should take steps that should not affect the people under any cost and whatever is the compensation it should be paid by the government for the people who are leading there life over here so that they can switch their life to a different phenomenon.
