Biography of Subhash Mukhopadhyoy, Renowned Poet


Subhash Mukhopadhyoy is one of the poet in Bengal who was influenced by Communist ideas and principles.

Subhash Mukhopadhyoy was born in 1919, His first 'Padatik' was published in the year 1940. This poem carried his original signature mark of revolutionary voice and realistic view of nature. He brings back the style of political poems in Post-Independence Era.

He was a dedicated workers of Communist party of India from 1942 onwards. he expressed his fight for political struggle and opened the mask of corrupt government through his poems. His main targets was greedy and corrupt powerful man who destroyed the smile of common people. According to Buddhadeb Basu, renowned novelist and poet, instead of love poems Subhash Mukhopadhyoy penned the poems by waging war. And this war was not for a particular person but, for a collection of human beings.

This famous poet of modern era was a realistic poet. The short and small things of the society is revealed in his poems. As a humanist poet, he also portrayed the tortured and struggled life of farmers and labor-class in his poems. The struggle among the class and revolutionary mindset is the main feature of his poems. Above all he mixed the realism with the romanticism and give the new dimension to romanticism. This simple way of telling the poems make him one of the best poet of Bengal. He was awarded bwith Sahitya Academy Award in 1964 and Jnanpith award in 1991 for his great works.

Some of his poems are : Padatik, Chirkut, Agnikone, Phul Phutuk, Joto Dureii Jai, Ek Bhai, Kaal Modhumash, Cheley Gechhey Boney, Ektu Pa Chalai, Jol Soite, Bangali'r Itihaash, Desh Bidesher Rupkotha, Bagh Dekechilo, Choi-choi, Kagojer Nouka, Dharmer Kol, etc.
This famous poets passed away in 2003.
