The government issued an directive stated that the institution can only take student in a decentralized manner. Read this article to know more about this issue including the name of the departments of JU and BESU where vacant seats are available after third round of JEE counselling 2012.

WB JEE counselling 2012The state government has rejected the appeals of Jadavpur University (JU) and Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) to take are view for not to fill up seats with bottom-rung students in their institutions. After third round of counseling there are total 170 seats are empty in both institutes. So, the two universities had applied to the higher education department of West Bengal to open a fourth round of centralized JEE counselling 2012 to all the students so that they could fill up the 170 vacant seats from the merit list of JEE 2012 with quality students. Out of the 170 seats 115 seats are in JU and 55 in BESU. The state government rejected this request. Satish tiwary, the principle secretary of higher education department, WB said that they had announced earlier there will be no centralized counselling fill up the vacant seats, the institutes should have to fill up the seats in a decentralized manner. On 31 st July, 2012 the state government had issued a circular saying that the students who could not able to get admission in any of 95 engineering colleges in the state after the previous three round of counseling could be taken in. In that circular it is also stated that all the institutions must have to ensure that every student who is wishing to take admission in such vacant seat should submit an undertaking statement that his/her candidature will be cancelled if it is found that he/she already physically reported at the final allotted institute allotted to the candidate through the online counseling process.

To prevent chaos the WB higher education department decided to take steps so that the students who have already taken admission will be ineligible for the 12000 vacant seats. According to the official of higher education department, near about 20000 students had already secured admission in various institutions of West Bengal. If many of them start migrating from one to another instate, it will create a chaos and thus the academic activities would suffer a lot. But the two premier institutes of West Bengal, JU and BESU didn't agree with this decision of state government. They want to take admission of those students who had already taken admission in other institutes but want to study in their universities as the merit is the sole criterion. Now if they are forced to follow the government circular then they would have to admit the low-ranked students and thus have to compromise with their own standard. So far, out of the 115 vacant seats at JU, 11 seats are in department of computer science and engineering, 10 in mechanical, 13 in civil and 6 in information technology department. At BESU among the 55 vacant seats, 7 in electrical, 12 in IT, 7 in mechanical and 8 in computer science and engineering department.

In previous years, students normally having JEE rank within 160 would fill up 62 seats in computer science and engineering department of JU which is one of best department and in BESU for 60 seats in electrical engineering the rank of the last candidate has always within 700. Now if these two universities follow the government directive then the academic standard would fall down undoubtedly. Let's have a check on the name of departments of JU and BESU that have the vacant seats after the third round of JEE counseling 2012 -
