Tourist places in Gujarat


This article deals with the highlights of one of the finest cities of Gujarat for Gujarat tourism and for tourist places. Article give you a brief idea why a city is famous for and what are the important places in that city for visiting. Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Porbandar and Jamagar etc are important cities for Gujarat tourism.

Gujarat, one of the fast developing state of India is also famous for its tourism business. Here an attempt is made to just highlight the important districts and cities which are famous for its old and heritage buildings. These include business hub of Gujarat i.e. Ahmedabad, Kathiyawad i.e Bhavnagar, One of the holy place in Gujarat i.e. Girnar and Junagadh, Morbi, Porbandar-the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhiji and Jamnagar. Junagadh:



Junagadh Tourist places

  • Junagadh is one of the oldsest city of Gujarat and located at the base of holy 'Girnar Hills'.

  • In Gujarati, Junagadh means old fort. The town is surrounded by fort walls and 'uparkot' in the west side.

  • At the top of the hills there is holy temple of Guru Datatraya Bhagwan and in mid of the fort, holy temple of Ambaji is located.

  • The khapara-Kodia caves located in the town are worth visiting in this city.

  • Junagadh also having one zoo which is located centrally.


  • Ahmedabad:

  • Ahmedabad is largest city of Gujarat and is business hub of India.

  • It is fifth largest city of India and is founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 26th February, 1411 on the river bank of 'Sabarmati' which divides city in two parts, namely old and new city. Railway station, air port and central bus station is located on old city part.

  • Tourists can visit Ahmedabad throughout year to visit Siddi Sayyad's Mosque, Sabarmati Ashram founded by Mahatma Gandhiji, Teen Darwaja, Gita Mandir, Hathisinh Mandir, Kankaria lake, Ahmed Shah's Mosque, Julta Minars, Jumma Masjid, Rani Rupmati Mosque, Shah Alam's Rauza, Dada Hari Vav and many more to visit.


  • Bhavnagar:

  • First princely city to merge in Independent India in 1948

  • Bhavnagar is founded in 1723 and named after its founder and rules king 'Bhavsinji Gohel' and also known as 'kathiyawad'

  • Bhavnagar is a coastal city on the eastern side of coastal 'Saurashtra' region.

  • Bhavnagar is having rich history of trade, tradition and culture and famous for these three in India.

  • Alang, one of the coastal city of Bhavnagar district is famous worldwide for ship breaking business. Also famous for 863 beautiful Jain temples in Palitana which is record of number of temples in a city in world.

  • There are many more places in Bhavnagar to visit, viz. Nilambaug palace, Victoria garden, Gandhi smriti, Bortalav, Takhteshwar temple, Aksharwadi, Barton library and museum.


  • Jamnagar:

  • Jamnagar is one of the historic city of India with many ornate and old buildings, colourful markets.

  • Jamnagar is situated in Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

  • Jamnagar is founded by King Jamsinhji before 450 years and is a home for Jadeja Rajput other than morbid and kutch.

  • It is having only Ayurvedic university of country.

  • Jamnagar is famous for its pearl fisheries, die and dye fabrics bandhani work.

  • Lakhota fort and Kotha Banstion are two old structure located in centre of old city and are worth visiting.


  • Porbandar:

  • A city known as birth place of our own 'Mahatma Gandhi Bapu'

  • Porbandar is originally fortified with fort walls and five gates.

  • Kirtimandir is next to birth place of bapu and has Gandhian Library and a prayer hall.

  • Porbandar is a native place of Sudhama-friend of Lord Krisna.

  • Sandipani Ashram – Gurukul is also situated in nearby Porbandar city.


  • Morbi:



    Morbi Tourist places

  • The house of Morbi is older than that of Jamnagar and Kutch and is a former capital of princely state of Morbi.

  • Morbi is located on the river bank of 'Machchhu' river

  • Importants places to visit are Darbargadh, wellington Secretariat, Suspension bridge and Mani mandir.
