Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Nagaon district of Assam on southern bank of river Brahmaputra at a distance of about 25 kms. from Nagaon town. Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a part of Laokhowa- Burachapori eco-system.

Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area do 70.13 sq. km. It is a fascinating habitat to rare and endangered species of birds and animals including One-Horned Rhinoceros, Leopard, Asiatic Water Buffalo, Civet Cat, Bengal Tiger, Fishing Cat, Lesser Cat, Elephant, Leopard Cat, Wild Pig, Wild Boar, Barking Dear, Hog Deer, Black Deer, etc. and more than 225 species of birds, including the migratory birds and endangered Bengal Florican. There are also approx. 9 species of Amphibians, 14 species of reptiles and bout 39 species of various fishes in the sanctuary. High level of precipitation is another major feature of Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary. All these characteristics make a reason to call the Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary as Wildlife lover's paradise.

When to visit Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary


The best time to visit Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam is form November to March as the climate of quite pleasant and eco-friendly during this period. There is a high level of precipitation in the sanctuary during the rest of the year i.e. the humidity is very high in Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary from April to October.

How to reach Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary


By air:
The nearest airport is LGBI airport of Guwahati which is about 145 kms. away from Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary.

By rail:
The nearest railhead is at Nagaon Town which is about 28 kms. away from Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary.

By road:
You can hire a bus or taxi from any part of the state to reach Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary. It takes about ½ hour to reach the sanctuary from Nagaon and about 2.5 hours from Guwahati.
