Bathow Festival of Assam or Bathow Puja of Assam is one of the Religious festival of Assam. This festival of Assam is celebrated by the Bodo Kacharies of Assam. In this festival the people of Assam worship the God who has many names. Many people call him as Gila Damra, some people call him as Khuria Bwrai and some Sri Brai or Shib bwrai or Bathow Bwrai. As Hindus they call him the Lord Shiva who is the god of destruction as on Hindu Puran. This festival is celebrated in different forms, such as : Garja, Marai and Kherai. Among the different forms of the Bathow Festival of Assam the Kherai is one of the important festival in Bathow Festival of Assam.

This Kherai Festival of Assam or Kherai Puja of Assam is one of the different form of the Bathow festival of Assam. Before this Kherai Puja the Garja Festival has celebrated and after the Garja Festival of Bathow Festival the Bodo villagers of Assam select one date for the celebration of Kherai Puja of Assam. The procedure of the Kherai Festival of Assam is a cactus which is called as the Bwai Bathow in this festival surrounded by small babboos as the boundary wall of the Cactus. The peoples of Assam offers fruits, flowers and grains to this catus which is called as the Bwai Bathow. The Tulsi leaves and mango leaves and a special kind of Grass which is known as "Duba" are dipped in a small water pot and kept the pot near the bamboo boundary. Then the coconut peel which is known as Dhuna locally is burnt which creates a nice environment and a good fragrance. Then the priest of the Puja performs the Special dance means the famous Kherai Dance infront of the Cactus which is known as the "Bwrai Bathow" in the Kherai festival. Then the music programs starts and the worshipers dance on the rhythem of that Famous Assamese music to make happy the Doudini which is known as the middle position of the Bamboo boundary and where the cactus is. Many peoples of Assam and many tourists enjoy this Bathow festival of Assam with great pomp.
