Overview
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is well known school in the capital of the state and is also known simply as JNV. This is an organization working almost in all of the states in India. This is a platform where a child is made into an adult with a better qualification and other moral values. Students passing out from this organization are gems in all terms. In Shimla, this is situated at Theog,; Vill: Deorighat. It was on 20th dec, 1986 when the foundation of the vidyalaya came into being by Hon'ble former Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh. The area /campus of the vidyalaya is twenty seven acres and is in mid of the dense forest. The administrative building is made in steps and is just above the national highway 22. There are many places which are entirely devoted to different activities in the school. All the classrooms are given with high speed internet access and local area connection. This makes the children all long updated to the changing world outside and let them explore the dynamic world. The vidyalaya is surrounded by pine trees and lies in the surrounding of Nangal Devi Temple. This all area is about seven thousand feet above sea level.
Admission Procedure
Getting admission in the school is not much easier than compared to other schools. It conducts a test and only sixty seats are filled on the merit basis. National Competitive Examination is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the entry is made for the class VI level. Although admission is also done for ninth and +1 grade based upon the number of vacant seats. The main part to be considered here is that all the education is made free of cost. Only Rs. 200 is taken from the general category students when they reach ninth standard. The criteria for admission are as follows: seventy five percent of seats are reserved for rural region children and thirty three are filled by girls and others left by SCs/STs. Only Tamil Nadu is the state in the country where there is no vidyalaya due to certain reasons. Henceforth, the vidyalaya has much to offer to the students and the quality education is the major aim of the organization. After railways, JNV's are allotted with the total national finance. The results offered by these vidyalayas are of national level, every year navodayas stand first in academics in the board classes, which is self-proof evidence that depicts the caliber and the hard work put-in by the students. Sports and other events
Academics is the major aim as said before, but apart from this the emphasis is laid on the overall development of the student. For this, inter navodaya sports meet is organized every year and further selected students are sent to other major events of national/ international cadre. Along with sports other co-curricular activities are also organized and this is the stage for the better overall up-lift-ment of a student. Here in JNV Shimla, one can have almost every kind of indoor and outdoor game and one can select any of them. Table Tanis, Badminton, volleyball, football and many others are the game types which can be opt. by the students. Besides this Archery, judo and Tykawando are the games which are most thrilling. So, joining such an organization as a student is a matter of pride and an assurity that you'll be polished here like anything. Sports here, means total body exercise so, for this teachers are also taking part and playing with the concerned students. At the end of every match, there is a match between teachers and students. As said earlier, academics is the major aim here, so teachers are always deeply concerned to give the best of their resource to the students and for this they take help from n number of resources for better content and updated information. For better understanding students are made to visit the places where the concerned topic is done as a project on regular basis. Project modeling is done, and even you can find the mathematics lab here which is well organized by the mathematics faculty and being the head of this department Mr. R.P. Sharma also feels glad to give the best to the students. For the year 2010, the school was headed by Mr. P.K. Sharma as a worthy principal and currently by Mr. Jai Krishan Sharma. The faculty has proved themselves as the best buddies for the better qualification of the students. Accommodation
This is totally a boarding school, henceforth; all the students and teachers live as a family. There is proper buildings setup for students as well as for the teachers. The houses are divided under different names, namely for girls Shivalik, Neelgiri, Aravali. Udaigiri, Shivalik, Neelgiri, Aravali constitutes the boys houses. There is a special house apart from these for the latest junior students called as Abhimanyu. Here students of standard 6th and 7th are made to stay. There are proper timings made for different daily activities and hence every day runs smoothly. Conclusion
