About Paithani

Paithaniname comes from a small town called Paithan of Aurangabad where its production started. It is believed that Paithani has history of 2000 years. Traditionally these sarees where made from Cotton, Pure Silk and gold zari. These sarees were initially woven specially for queens and other members of the royal family by weavers in the palaces. However, with the passage of time, these sarees are now easily available both in India and internationally.. The Peshwas in the 18th century had a special love for Paithani textiles and it is believed that Madhavrao Peshwaeven asked for the supply of asavali dupattasin red, green, saffron, pomegranate and pink colours. Paithani weave was at the peak of its popularity during the reign of the Peshwas. It is believed that the Nizam of Hyderabadwas also attracted to the Paithanis and made several trips to the small town of Paithan.

These sarees were traditionally hand woven and the process of preparing a saree was ranging from a five months to years.
