He started his career as Merchandizing Manager at Garment Factory, he had no plans to step into film industry.His first month's salary was1000/- Rs. Directors Mani Rathnam and Vasanth had just met him at an occasion and called forth a photo shoot. Then as he made his debut with 'Nerukku Ner', which was first hit of the uprising star.Film Career
His debut Film Nerrukku Ner was released in 1997. Directed by Vasanth,Actress Simran was with him. The film was released in January 1998 called 'Kadhale nimmali ' in which he was with co actor Murali.
Surya was casted by Director Vasanth in his 'Poovellam Kettupar' and its is the first film in which he acted with jyothika.
on Jan 14, 2001 both Surya and Vijay paired up for 'Friends' directed by Siddique which was the stunning comedy film with the some emotional aspects.Another turning point of his career was Bala offering him to perform the lead role of a different shade in his 'Nandha'.Film was released on November 14, 2001.
Then he did 'Sree' which was one of the flop movies of that year.
'Kaakha Kaakha' directed by Gowtham Menon had again made Surya, Jyothika to pair and this was the moment when both of them became so closer.After 2 months 'Pithamaghan' was released which was directed by Bala.Surya and Vikram and won several awards for the film.
On March 2005, 'Maayavi' directed by Bala's assistant Singam Puli had Surya and Jyothika pairing up together.The same year had yet another blockbuster 'Ghajini' directed by Murugadoss which was later featured in Hindi by Aamir Khan by the same movie name.
After his marriage ,Hi did films like 'aru','vel',' Vaaranam Aayiram' and 'Singam' which was directed by Hari.Awards of Surya
