KanyaKumari - A home for Tourists


It is a district of Tamil Nadu, located at a distance of 235 km from Madurai district. This lies in the southernmost tip of the Indian sub continent. It shares the common tip between Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Specialties of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial


The height of the central tower in the memorial is made to 79 feet and this represents the age of Mahatma Gandhi.Another fascinating fact about this memorial is that on the day of October 2nd (i.e.) on his birthday the sun's rays fall on the place where Mahatma's ashes were kept due to the arrangements in the memorial building.

Kumari Amman Temple


Kumari Amman Temple, is a popular spot of tourist attraction and a divine pilgrimage of Hindhus located near the seashore. This was built by the Pandyan kings in 8th century and was well renovated by the rulers of Chola, Vijayanagar and Nayakar kingdom. The temple is dedicated to the virgin Goddess Devi Kanyakumari who is supposed to have done a great ritual for the purpose of wrong doing and so according to the epics she could marry Lord Shiva.The greatest attraction in Kumari temple is the Navaratri Mandapam which has been beautifully sculpted and maintained well.

The image of Mahishamardini (Durga killing demon Mahisha) is highly fascinating. The historical thing in this temple is that there is a 18th century shrine consisting of the foot prints of the goddess Kumari who performed her penance at that place.

A Church for Our Lady of Joy


The Church of Our Lady of Joy was built by St. Francis Xavier is built which is located in the southern part of the district. This church belong to the mid of 16th Century. The sandy beaches and the multi-coloured granite rocks are the famous places to notify.

This church has utmost divinity lying with it.The people are moving towards this Church to attain the cleanliness in the soul and to show their thanks for the saint and to the Lady of Joy. The festival for the lady of Joy will be celebrated for about 10 days during the months of November and December every year.

Thiruvalluvar Statue


Thiruvalluvar Statue at Kanyakumari is the one of the greatest tourist attraction in Kanyakumari located amidst in the sea.It was built by the plan of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr.Karunanidhi.This is a architectural wonder and its total height is about 133 metres height representing the Number of topics in the great Tamil literature called Thirukkural written by Thiruvalluvar.Even during the Tsunami and earth quake the statue remained in its position with great grip as that of his Tamil contribution standing in an everlasting manner without losing its property.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial


Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari is built as a memorial for the Swami Vivekanandha known to be called as Enlightened Youth and a great saint's visit during the year 1892 to Shri Padha Parai for the purpose of meditation.It is said that he got enlightenment here before attending the Chicago World conference.It is also said that he has swam towards this individual rock and wanted to have a peaceful place to meditate from the Sea shore.

Padmanabhapuram Palace


Padmanabhapuram Palace at Kanyakumari is an architectural Palace is lying at a distance of about 55 Kms from south of Trivandrum and it is in the east direction of Thuckalay at a distance of around 2kms.This can also be accessed by travelling through a distance of about 35 Kms from Kanyakumari district.

This palace of architectural adventure is maintained well by the Tourist Department of Kerala. The special things in this palace are the handwork and carvings in the Entrance Hall, Uppirika Malika, and the Navarathri Mandapam.
