Tamilnadu exuberant promises of electric power! Are power starved people, wishful or wistful?

An agility exercise is being involved in Tamil Nadu power sector to skilfully manage the poignant power failure. To beat the blue, the Energy Ministry has several schemes made, not only assuage the public but also to eliminate the menacing existing problem. A formidable exercise is on war foot basis, and the progress is seen in the plans and schemes with an estimated cost of Rs. 22,800 crores to generate power, 3,860MW. Can belated agility exercises, serve need of the hour, and allay nightmare?

An agility exercise is being involved in Tamil Nadu power sector

North Chennai Power Generation (Level-3)

For (Level - 3) Power Generation Project for North Chennai has an estimation of Rs.4, 800 crores, to derive a supply of 800 MW. A feasibility report, with complete terms, and conduct of functioning has been formulated and the details will be made available to tender contractors. The task force report has to be confirmed by Central Environment Minister, says an available source.

Kunda Hydro-power Station

The Tamil Nadu Government speaks about Kunda Hydropower Station: From each of the four units, each calculated fetching 125 MW, we get 500 MW power, and this has project an estimate cost of Rs 1,200 crore. The commission Central Electricity Authority and Central and Water Resources Department are expected to grant approval.

Cheyyur Power Plant

Here is heart-warming news about Cheyyur Power Plant. In 12th Five Year Plan, a mega plant with a sum of Rs. 18 thousand crore rupees is under the scheme. Tamil Nadu will have a share of 1600 MW. India has set up a financial institute to augur the functioning of an unique company, Coastal Tamil Nadu Power Ltd., will take the task force.

Uppoor thermal Power Plant

Uppoor thermal Power Plant has something more encouraging because it has two units each in the scheme each will fetch 800 MW, and in total 1600 MW.The scheme has an estimation of Rs.9, 600 crores. To assess what impact this project will pose is under scrutiny, and a detailed reports have been submitted to the experts' panel for study.

Udangudi Power Plant

Udangudi an unit does not seem to have immediate success although each of the two units, a total of 800 MW,to yeild 1,600 MW power project that will produce a cost estimation of Rs.9083 Crores. The complexity in obtaining coal, and non access to environmental approval, the scheme is at the back bench with no fruition. what are the Current demands and supply potentialities?

In the year 2011-12 the total power generation is 27,941 million units. The purchases from Central Government Power, Plants and Windmill harvesting, and purchases from open market were 49 thousand, 277 million units thousand 277 million units. In the same period the total electric consumption was 77 thousand218 million units.

The study shows that as on March, 2012 the total existing power consumers are 2 crore, 31 Lakh and 37thousand. Therefore, there arises a need (Demand) for electric power consumption that works out to 240 to 260 million units per day.

The State currently has 1,361 auxiliary power sectors in service.
The State Power Generations, the contribution from Central government, and States complete energy sources including non-conventional power segments accounts for total power volume is 17 thousand 936 megawatts only.

A glimpse to the plight

The State average stock. 8,500 MW.
The Statet's Demand 11,500 MW to 12,500 MW
Shortage in power supply 3000-4000 MW

11 thousand 500MW to and 12 thousand to 500MW thousand are in demand, but shortage is from 3,000 to 4,000 MW.

Do we feel really happy and enthusiastic about something the ongoing promises showered when our students, children, women, men, patients in hospitals, spent dark days with sweat and tears and sleepless nights, and squandered time only to wake up tired and weary?
