Recipes of Asoka Halwa, Carrot & Beetroot Halwa and Suji Halwa

The three halwas are made in the same way by boiling the main ingredient of Moong dhal, carrot and beetroot. The halwa made by moong dhal is regionally called as asoka halwa. Now let us enjoy the recipes.

Asoka Halwa


Ingredients to make Asoka Halwa/Carrot Halwa/Beetroot Halwa
Moong Dhal – ½ Kg/grated carrot/beetroot - 1/2 Kg.
Sugar – 1 Kg
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Cardamom – 5 nos
Cashew Nuts – 50 gms
Raisin – 50 gms (also called fried grapes)
Ghee – ¼ kg

Asoka Halwa making
Boil the moong dhal in a cooker, smash it and keep it separately. In a separate pan, wheat flour is slightly roasted in a spoon of ghee and cardamom may be added. In this, add the mashed moong dhal and sugar which may be stirred nicely to get a thick solution. Then ghee may be added so that this solution will not stick to the vessel. Now the fried cashew nuts in ghee may be added. In the place of moong dhal, grated carrot or beet root may be added by boiling and smashed.

Suji Halwa


Ingredients to make Suji Halwa
Suji – ½ Kg
Sugar – 1 Kg
Milk – ½ litre
Cardamom – 5 nos
Cashew Nuts – 50 gms
Raisin – 50 gms (also called fried grapes)
Ghee – ¼ kg

Suji Halwa making
Suji may be fried in a ghee and cashew nut and raisin may be added while frying to get a wet mixture out of it. Milk may be boiled in a separate pan and sugar may be added to it when it comes to a thicker solution and after sugar is dissolved nicely, the suji mixture may be added and stirred until it get to a thick and ghee may be added so that this mixture will not stick to the vessel.
