Authentic traditional Mutton curry recipe


This recipes is purely traditional which is made in some parts of Karnataka. Mutton curry is delicious served with hot plain rice, chapatis, idly, dosa, and tastes best with ragi ball. This is obviously for those who like a spice in their dishes. This dishes can be easily made in pressure cooker.

Mutton curry

Ingredients



  • mutton 1kg

  • onion 11/4 sliced

  • garlic 9to10pods

  • ginger 2inches

  • coriander powder 2tablespoon

  • chilli powder 1teaspoon

  • cloves 10

  • cinnamon 2

  • coconut 3teaspoon

  • tomato 1/2

  • oil 4teaspoon

  • salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves 2teaspoon


  • method for cooking mutton curry


  • Clean and wash the mutton pieces thoroughly and keep it aside.

  • Heat 1tsp oil in pan, on medium heat.

  • When hot add 1 onion, ginger, garlic, cloves and cinnamon. sauté till the onion begin to turn pale golden brown in color. Turn off heat and cool it , grind to fine paste in a food processor.

  • Now grind coconut, chilli powder, coriander powder, into fine paste, in food processor, remove into separate container and keep aside.

  • Heat 3tsp oil in a pressure cooker , add 1/4 onion and sauté till light pink. Add tomato sauté for 2 to3 minutes.

  • Now add mutton pieces, season with salt to taste and sauté till mutton is browned well.

  • Add grinded onion masala, coconut paste and mix well. Then finally add chopped fresh coriander leaves and water.

  • Cover lid of cooker and cook over medium heat till pressure released five times.

  • Remove from heat and let pressure reduce. Check if mutton is thoroughly cooked. If not switch on the gas and let it cook on medium flame till mutton is cooked.

  • You may add additional water if you want more gravy.

  • serve hot with plain rice, chapatis, it tastes best with Ragi ball.


  • Mutton Chops


    This is another delicious curry cooked in green gravy.

    Ingredients

    • Mutton 1kg

    • onion 11/4

    • garlic 3nos

    • ginger 3inches

    • green chillies 4to5

    • coriander powder 1 teaspoon

    • mint leaves 1/2 bunch

    • coriander leaves 1/2 cup

    • cloves 7to8

    • cinnamon 2

    • pepper 1/2 teaspoon

    • grated dry coconut 2 table spoon

    • salt to taste,/LI>
    • oil 2 tsp


    • Method



      • Clean and wash the mutton pieces thoroughly and keep aside.

      • Take a food processor jar add 1 onion, ginger, garlic, clove, cinnamon, dry coconut, pepper, grind to fine paste and keep aside.
      • Now grind mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chilli, and coriander powder in food processor, this becomes green paste.

      • Heat 2teaspoon oil in pressure cooker, add 1/4 onion and sauté till light pink.

      • Now add mutton pieces, sprinkle salt to taste and sauté till mutton is browned well.

      • Add grinded onion masala, green paste and mix well.

      • Cover lid of cooker and cook till pressure released five times.

      • Remove from heat and let pressure reduce. Open lid and cook on medium flame till gravy thickens.

      • Serve hot with chapatis.
