Mukul Roy is the all India general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. Mukul Roy did his early education in his native place at the Harneet High School, Kanchrapara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. He was active in the quiz and drama fields and loved paricipating in inter-school science competitions. Mukul Roy was not initially as involved in politics as he is today. He was at one time the non-executive director of United Bank of India from 2002 to 2005. He got the prestigious honour of becoming one of the members of the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Parliament of India) in April 2006. In August that same year he was appointed as a member of the Committee on Urban Development as well as a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was in April 2008 that Mukul Roy was appointed as a key leader of the Trinamool Congress, West Bengal, taking up the post of the party's all India general secretary. Since May 2009 Mukul Roy is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India. Away from the political minefield, Mukul Roy is a family man residing in Kolkata, West Bengal. He tied the knot on August 14th 1980; his wife's name is Rekha Roy. The couple has one son. Mukul Roy's favourite past times are watching cricket matches (only one-day games!) and he is also a huge fan of the famous West Bengal football club Mohan Bagan.
