Bengali recipe - Doi Maach/Doi Fish


Doi Maach is a very famous Bengali dish and is also easy to prepare. Here are the details

Ingredients required to prepare Doi Maach or Doi fish


5 pieces medium sized fishes.
4 table spoon Doi
1 Chopped/Grated onion
1 table spoon Ginger paste
¼ tablespoon Tumeric powder
½ table spoon Chilli Powder
2 crushed Cardamom
1 half size Cinamon
1 table spoon Sugar
6 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste
2 small Tej Pata

How to prepare Doi Maach




Rub a pinch of salt and tumeric on the fish pieces and keep aside for 30 mins.

In a bowl beat the Doi with required water into a smooth paste and keep aside.

Now in a frying pan, heat 2 table spoon of oil and then fry the fish pieces lightly each side and then remove them.

Now add the beaten Doi to the fried fishes and set aside for another 30 mins.

Now again heat 4 table spoon of oil and to it add bay leaves, cardamom and cinnamon and fry it for 30 secs.

Now add grated onion, ginger paste and tuneric powder to it and fry it on a medium flame for 3-4 mins till the oil separates.

Now add the fishes mixed with Doi to it and add sugar according to your taste.

Now cover the frying pan and cook it for 15 mins on lower flame. You may adjust the desired gravy consistency at this stage.

Now serve it hot with Ghee Rice or Rice.
