Echorer Dalna-Traditional Dish of Bengal

Ingredients required to prepare Echorer Dalna
500gm Echor (Jackfruit)
1 Medium sized Onion (finely chopped)
1 Medium sized Tomato (finely chopped)
2 Medium Sized Potatoes
1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic paste
1 tablespoon Turmeric Powder
½ tablespoon Garam Masala Powder
1 Bay Leaf
1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
1 tablespoon Cumin powder
½ tablespoon Red Chilli Powder
2 Green Chillies (silted)
Salt according to taste
Method of preparing Echorer Dalna
Remove the skin of the echor and cut into small cubes.
Rub a pinch of salt to the echor pieces and cook in a pressure cooker with little water for one whistle till the echor becomes tender.
Now drain and keep them aside.
Cut the potatoes into six cubes like pieces.
Heat oil in frying pan.
Fry the potato pieces till they turn light brown and keep them aside.
Now add the bay leaf and cumin seeds.
When it starts spluttering add the ginger garlic paste and silted chilies.
Fry them for few seconds.
Add the chopped onion and tomato and fry them for 1 min.
Now add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, and red chiili powder and sauté them properly.
Add 2 cups of water and stir properly.
Now add the fried potatoes and boiled echor pieces.
Add salt according to the taste and stir properly for 1 min.
Add 1 cup of water if you want.
Now cover it and cook for another 10 mins with occasional stirring.
Before removing from flame add a pinch of garam masala and mix well.
Now remove it from heat and serve hot with plain rice or chapattis.
